Knights' Queensbury Crew Paces Squad at Hoffman Cross Country Invitational

Canton, NY - A trio of Clarkson University Men's Cross Country runners from Queensbury, NY helped pace the team's efforts at the Hoffman Invitational held on the campus of St. Lawrence University Saturday afternoon as the Golden Knights finished second among five teams.

One day removed from a disappointing loss to open the 2010-11 campaign, the Clarkson University Hockey team came back to post one of its most impressive victories in recent years.
Six different Golden Knights scored goals and 11 skaters wearing the Green and Gold registered a point as Clarkson skated by fourth-ranked St. Cloud State 6-2 in the second day of action at the Omaha Stampede in Nebraska on Saturday afternoon.

Benkwitt, Pioneer gridmen top Saints, 31-13

The St. Lawrence University football team saw its two-game win streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon, as Utica College used an outstanding performance by quarterback Andrew Benkwitt en route to a 31-13 victory over the Saints at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium in Utica, NY.
The victory moves Utica to 5-1 (0-1) on the season. Meanwhile St. Lawrence falls to 2-4 overall, but with a Union loss at Hobart earlier on Saturday, the Saints now sit alone atop the Liberty League standings at 2-0.

Union edges Saints with 5 seconds left in OT in women's soccer

Union College's Taylor Bresnahan scored the game-winning goal with just five seconds to go in the second overtime period to lift the Dutchwomen to a 2-1 win over St. Lawrence in a Liberty League women's soccer game on Saturday.
It was the fourth straight loss for the Saints and three of the four have come in overtime. SLU is now 7-6-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the Liberty League while Union improves to 11-2 and 3-1 in league play.
Bresnahan took a pass from Melissa Mansfield and put the ball past Saint goalie Abby van Geldern at 119:55 to give Union the victory.

Providence handles Saints women's ice hockey 6-1 in season opener

Providence's Kate Bacon scored a hat trick while teammate Laura Veharanta added a pair of goals as the Friars knocked off St. Lawrence by the score of 6-1 in the Saints' 2010-11 season opener at Schneider Arena in Providence, RI.
Providence College moved to 2-1-0 on the season behind a three-goal first period and a 40-save outing in net by Genevieve Lacasse. The Saints suffer the defeat, which included two empty net goals given up, despite outshooting the Friars 41-27 overall and 13-3 in the third period.

Child's goal, Weninger's goaltending help Saints tie 1-1 in men's ice hockey

Sophomore defenseman Pete Child scored his second goal of the weekend with just over 52 seconds to go in regulation and the goaltender pulled for an extra attacker as St. Lawrence University came from behind to tie Minnesota State Mankato 1-1 at the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato Saturday night.
Child's goal and stellar goaltending by rookie Matt Weninger earned the Saints their second straight tie in the first-ever series with the Mavericks. The two teams, both 0-0-2 on the season, skated to a 5-5 tie in Friday's season openers.

Roo's Payne guides men's ice hockey in 10-4 rout of Rochester

(Rochester, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team won their second game of the weekend as they routed the University of Rochester 10-4 Saturday night.
The Roos improved to 2-0 in the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League and over and will host Binghamton University on Sunday at 3:30 at the Canton Pavilion.
"I thought we moved the puck very well tonight," said head coach Eric McCambly. "We just need to stay mentally focused to play a third game in three days on Sunday against a good Binghamton team."

Roo's men's soccer has strong first half but falls to No. 6 Fort Kent 4-0

(Fort Kent, Maine)-The SUNY Canton men's soccer team put up a solid battle against nationally-ranked University of Maine at Fort Kent but eventually fell 4-0 Saturday in Maine.
The Roos, who entered the weekend having won five out of their last seven games, saw their record drop to 5-2 in the Sunrise Conference and 5-6 overall. The Bengals, ranked sixth in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, improved to 8-0 in conference play and 12-0 overall.
SUNY Canton held the high-scoring Bengals to just one goal in the first half which made head coach Mark Howlett very happy.

Skelly and Morley tally goals in Roo women's soccer 4-2 loss to Fort Kent

(Fort Kent, Maine)-Kirsten Skelly (Brier Hill, N.Y.) and Kirsten Morley (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) each scored unassisted goals but it wasn't enough as the SUNY Canton women's soccer team lost to the University of Maine at Fort Kent 4-2 Saturday in Maine.
The Roos fell to 2-3 in the Sunrise Conference and 4-6 overall while the Bengals improved to 8-0 in the conference and 11-2 overall.
