Don’t hike taxes

I sure hope Mr. Brady does not look to the taxpayers to make up Potsdam Central’s loss. Times are hard for us too, and we can’t afford any more tax hikes in the village of Potsdam. They need to find every option there is to cut back on.

Morristown resident named to dean's list at Springfield College

Springfield College has named Carrie Noble of Morristown to the dean's list for academic excellence for the fall 2010 term. Noble is a fourth-year student whose major field of study is applied exercise science.
Founded in 1885, Springfield College is world renowned as the Birthplace of Basketball, and for its guiding philosophy of humanics – education of the whole person in spirit, mind and body – for leadership in service to others.

Two snowmobilers pulled from Oswegatchie River last night

OSWEGATCHIE -- Two men were pulled from the Oswegatchie River last night after their snowmobiles went through the ice.
A group of snowmobilers was running along the trail near Eel Wier State Park and decided to take a shortcut across the river near the bridge on Spile Bridge Road.
Eric Matheson, 21, 3954CR 10, Depeyster, was the first to go through the ice, while the rest of his group of about half a dozen riders went on to keep going through the ice themselves.
Logan Gagne, 22, 803 East Rd., Heuvelton, went back to help Matheson and went through the ice himself.

Potsdam TRIAD hosting free Valentine Sweets and Treats Party for seniors Saturday

POTSDAM – TRIAD will hold a Senior Citizen Valentine Sweets and Treats Party Saturday, Feb. 12 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church Community Center.
There will be bingo with prizes, coffee, tea and desserts. Photos will be taken by Dolly.
The event is free to all senior citizens.
Those who need a ride may call 212-5531 and leave their name and phone number.

NORWOOD – The Norwood Village Green Concert Series website has been fully updated for the 2011 season.
With a slight change in the schedule and the finalization of the St. Lawrence County Music Educators Association Pop Choral/Stage Band Festival posted and with the activation of the links to the performing artists websites, the site is in ready to serve and inform the public of its offerings for 2011 in a most direct manner.

Chicken and biscuit dinner at Heuvelton Amvets Saturday

HEUVELTON – A chicken and biscuit dinner will be held at the Heuvelton Amvets Hall, Saturday, Feb. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. to benefit the Heuvelton Central School alumni’s Spring into Action Walk.
The menu also includes mashed potatoes, vegetables, dessert and beverage.

Friends of the Hopkinton Reading Center accepting citrus orders

HOPKINTON -- Friends of the Hopkinton Reading Center are accepting orders for citrus and strawberries until March 1.
Delivery is expected the week of March 14; people will be notified as to specific day for pickup at the Tri-Town Rescue Squad in Nicholville.
Red grapefruit or Valencia oranges are $20 for 40 lbs. or $13 for 20 lbs. Honey tangerines, mixed citrus and citrus trio are $16 for 20 lbs. Strawberries are $20 for eight one-quart containers or $3 per quart.
