W. Potsdam fire department holds motorcycle poker run Aug. 15

WEST POTSDAM – The West Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department will hold their annual motorcycle poker run Sunday, Aug. 15, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. at the bingo hall rain or shine.
The 120-mile run begins at 11 a.m. and returns to the bingo hall at 5 p.m.
There will be a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and other raffles. An outdoor barbecue will be held following the run beginning at 6 p.m.
The cost $15 per bike and $5 each additional rider; $10 dinner only; $5 per hand 50 percent payout for poker run winner.

Jacqueline Goble, 48, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG – Funeral services for Jacqueline Goble, 48, of 223 Montgomery St., will be held on Monday, Aug. 16, at Frary Funeral Home at 10 a.m. with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating.
Burial will be in Cedar Cemetery in Black Lake.
Calling hours will be held on Aug. 16, Frary Funeral Home from 9 to 10 a.m.
Mrs. Goble passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at her home.
State commission rates 2 of 3 Ogdensburg City Court Judge candidates as qualified

The state Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission for the Fourth Judicial District has released its ratings of qualifications for judicial candidates in the district, including for Ogdensburg City Court Judge, finding two of three candidates qualified.
There will be a three-way race for the Ogdensburg city judge seat. Candidates are Mary E. Rain, Potsdam, Republican and Independence parties; William R. Small, Ogdensburg, Republican; and Marcia L. LeMay, Ogdensburg, Democrat.

Winners emerge at 4-H Dairy Showmanship competition at Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair

GOUVERNEUR -- The 2010 Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair is now history. For several 4-H Dairy Showmen it will be a time to remember for quite a while. The 4-H program in St. Lawrence County has produced quite a few good Dairy Cattle Showmen who showed their stuff at the fair.

Car, truck, motorcycle show Sunday at Barnhardt Island

MASSENA – The 14th annual Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show is set for Sunday.
The show, sponsored by the Massena Olde Car Club and the Massena Chamber of Commerce, will be held Sunday, Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Robert Moses State Park, Barnhardt Island.

Norfolk Church of Visitation summer social Sunday

NORFOLK – The Church of the Visitation will hold its 27th annual summer social Sunday, Aug. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Morris Street.
There will be a fish pond, face painting, cake walk, various games and singalong, along with booths of Hungarian, Irish, French, Italian, Mexican and Chinese foods.
Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for ages 5-10, and free for under five.

SUNY Canton names Nazareth assistant as head men's soccer coach

CANTON -- SUNY Canton has named Mark Howlett as the new men's soccer coach.
Howlett, a native of Portsmouth, England, has served as an assistant coach for the past three seasons at Nazareth College. The Golden Flyers went 26-22-6 during those three years and twice had a player named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year.

Canton Democrats to caucus Sept. 2

CANTON -- A Canton Democratic Caucus will be held Sept. 2 at 7 p.m., at the Canton Municipal Building, 60 Main St.
Candidates for town board member and village trustee seats for the upcoming election on Nov 2 will be nominated.
All enrolled members of the Democratic Party in the town for town positions and village-registered Democrats for the village trustee positions are eligible to participate.

Children's concert at Sandstoner Park Aug. 24 in Potsdam

POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Public Library will host Tom Sieling for a children’s concert, “Take a Tromp through the Swamp and a Break by the Lake” at Sandstoner Park, Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 3 p.m.
All are welcome to attend the free event, which will also feature the library’s story walk, “The Salamander Room.”
Refreshments will be served.
The event is sponsored by Walmart.
