Graveside services for 65 year old Brenda J. Sullivan, 35 Riverside Drive, Canton, will be held in the spring at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Colton. There will be no calling hours or funeral services at this time. Mrs. Sullivan passed away Saturday evening at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Mrs. Sullivan is survived by her husband, Gary, Potsdam; her daughter, Susan and James Candiloro, Altamont; her granddaughter, Waverly Candiloro; her sister, Marilyn Gilbo, Arlington, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cynthia P. “Cindy Bear” Terrance Smoke, 54, of 8 State Route 37, passed away on Saturday afternoon, February 12, 2011, surrounded by her family at Fletcher-Allen Medical Center, Burlington, where she had been admitted earlier in the day.

Funeral Services for Joseph G. Riley, 77, formerly of East Ave Massena will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday ( February 16, 2011) at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena with Rev. Jeff Aiosa officiating and Deacon James Hotte co-officiating.
The family will be receiving friends and family on Tuesday (February 15, 2011) from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Norfolk in the spring. Joseph died Saturday (February 12, 2011) at the St. Regis Nursing Home, Massena.

Sandra E. Marrama, age 62, of Brushton, and formerly of Burlington, MA died on Friday, February 11, 2011.
Sandra was born in Somerville, MA on January 15, 1949 the daughter of the late John and Rita Kenney McGinness. She graduated from Burlington High School. Sandra worked for Bellofram Electronics Company as an assembler of Electronics. She worked for the family business, flooring contracting as an accountant.
In her free time, Sandra enjoyed knitting a variety of items and donating to different charities. In 1968 she was united in marriage to Richard J. Marrama.

Marion E. Ashley, age 88, of Moira, and a resident of the Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011.
Marion was born on January 19, 1923 in Fort Covington, the daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth Griffin Ashley. She attended Country School in Fort Covington. For many years she drove tractor trailer in the southern states. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, and puzzle books. Marion was a member of the Cooks Corners Wesleyan Church.
Lora Marie Foster, 85, Brushton

Lora Marie Foster, beloved wife and mother went home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2011 at the Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone.
She was born in Brushton on July 21, 1925, the daughter of the late Ray and Bertha Whitman Saxton. Lora graduated as class president and valedictorian from Brushton High School in 1942. She also graduated from Adirondack Commercial School and worked for the railroad Express Agency for a short time.
Patricia Turner of Potsdam continuously works towards the betterment of animals at the Potsdam Animal Shelter. Over the past few years, Pat, along with her husband Peter, has adopted several animals from the shelter. Additionally, Pat has also been fostering animals from the shelter, and has nursed over 60 cats and kittens to good health. An accomplished artist, Pat is also crafting silhouettes using photos of children, pets, landscapes, buildings to benefit the shelter. If you have a picture of it, Mrs. Turner can make it a piece of silhouette art.
Potsdam seeks input on what would make downtown more appealing

POTSDAM – If you ran the village of Potsdam, what would you do to make downtown more appealing?
Village residents, business owners, students and all who are interested in the future of Potsdam are invited to bring their ideas to a public forum slated for 7 p.m. on March 8 in the Community Room at the Potsdam Civic Center.
At this meeting, participants will get their first look at the work done so far by a committee of community residents charged with helping to chart the future of downtown and the village’s Raquette River corridor.

Applications are available for Northern New York Community Foundation Scholarships for graduating seniors in the St. Lawrence County school districts of Canton, Clifton-Fine, Colton-Pierrepont, Edwards-Knox, Gouverneur, Hammond, Harrisville, Hermon-DeKalb, Heuvelton, Lisbon, Morristown, Ogdensburg, Potsdam. Scholarships are for freshman year at college or technical school. Application deadline is April 1.
