Saints drop two matches at Hamilton in women's squash

St. Lawrence University's women's squash team slipped to 0-3 on the season with losses to 15th-ranked Hamilton College and 19th-ranked Franklin and Marshall at Hamilton.
The Saints, ranked 26th nationally, lost 9-0 to the host Continentals on Friday night with all of the matches decided by 3-0 scores.

NorthStars Volleyball Club tryouts for teen girls Dec. 12 in Potsdam

POTSDAM -- After a one-year absence, SUNY Potsdam volleyball head coach Steve Pike returns as volunteer coach of the NorthStars Volleyball Club, which will hold tryouts Sunday, Dec. 12, from 2-4 p.m. at SUNY Potsdam's Maxcy Hall.
The NorthStars club began in 2008-09 with a successful beginning training and a solid showing for both the 16- and 18-year-old teams at the Iroquois-Empire Volleyball Association (IREVA) Regional Tournament.

Norwood's Lobster House nominated for 'Pride-in-Potsdam' award

POTSDAM – The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce Town/Gown Committee has announced that The Lobster House, NYS Hwy. 56, Norwood, is the November nominee for next year’s Pride-In-Potsdam award.
“The committee wanted to recognize The Lobster House for the effort they make to keep their restaurant attractive both on the interior and exterior,” said committee chairperson Rob Bicknell.
The Pride-In-Potsdam program is designed to encourage merchants in the village and town to maintain and improve their properties.

MASSENA – A Fresh Berry Wreath class by St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Massena Central High School.
Come make a fresh evergreen wreath decorated with a variety of greenery,

Heuvelton man injured in hunting accident in Oswegatchie

OSWEGATCHIE – A Heuvelton man was shot Sunday afternoon in an apparent hunting accident, according to state police.
Shawn Bergeron, 40, was treated at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, for a gunshot wound to the outer rib cage and later released, police said.
State police and state Department of Environmental Conservation officers are investigating the hunting incident about 2:20 p.m. in a wooded area off County Route 6.
The investigation into the incident is continuing, police said.

The Potsdam Central High School boys varsity basketball team kicked off their 2010-2011 season by winning the Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Tournament in Glens Falls Dec. 3 and 4. They defeated Ausable Valley 72-42 and South Glens Fall in the championship game 83-51. Roos fall to Albany College of Pharmacy in men's basketball 84-75

(Potsdam, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men’s basketball team ended their first semester falling to Albany College of Pharmacy 84-75 Sunday afternoon in Potsdam.
The Roos are now 1-5 overall and are off until Jan. 7 when they play at Johnson State College.
The first four minutes of Sunday’s game saw the lead go back and forth as the lead changed hands five times.

(Potsdam, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women’s basketball team closed out their first semester with a 57-43 loss to Albany College of Pharmacy Sunday afternoon in Potsdam.
The Roos dropped to 1-7 overall and are off until Jan. 7 when they travel to Johnson State College.

A funeral service for 86-year old Mr. Arthur Louis Roy will be held at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam, on Monday, December 6, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. with Msgr. Robert Aucoin officiating. Mr. Roy died December 5, 2010 at Massena Memorial Hospital. He was a resident of Massena, and formerly from Niagara Falls.
