Funeral services for Henry W. Wilson, 88, of Canton will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 12:00 noon at the O’Leary Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Joe Jacowitz, officiating. Burial will be in Crary Mills Cemetery in the spring. Mr. Wilson passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at his home under the care of his family.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Donation in his memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley or to the American Cancer Society.

A Funeral Mass for Marion “Marney” R. Frisina, age 85, a resident of the United Helpers Nursing Home and formerly of Spring Street in Ogdensburg, will be held on Friday (Dec 10, 2010) at 12:00 noon at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Burial will be in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will also be held on Friday from 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Ms. Frisina died Tuesday (Dec 7, 2010) at the nursing home.
Slic accepts $33 million grant to expand broadband access in county

POTSDAM -- Slic Network Solutions President and General Manager Phillip Wagschal officially received a $33,161,409 grant and loan funding package this afternoon from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Broadband Initiatives Program to bring broadband access to sparsely populated rural areas of the country.

SLC Arts Council to host reception for 'Mythical Winged Artists' Saturday

POTSDAM – The St. Lawrence County Arts Council will hold the opening reception for “Mythical Winged Artists,” an exhibit of works by the artists of Winged Camel Metalworks in Colton and Winged Bull Studio in Clayton Saturday, Dec. 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 51 Market St.
In this new exhibit, the metal sculptures and jewelry of Mary Ann & Malcolm Owen share the gallery with the wood engravings and sculptures of Greg Lago.
Winged Camel Metalworks has been owned and operated by Malcolm and Mary Ann Owen since 1976.

The Met: Live in HD airs Verdi's 'Don Carlo' at Roxy Dec. 11, 12

POTSDAM -- The first new Metropolitan Opera production of Giuseppe Verdi's "Don Carlo" in more than 30 years will debut on silver screens across the globe, including Potsdam’s Roxy Theater, on Saturday, Dec. 11 through The Met: Live in HD.
Love, war, politics and religion combine to tell a story that is epic in scale in Verdi's monumental work.
"Don Carlo," which will be presented in a five-act Italian version (including the "Fontainebleau Act") with two intermissions, will be transmitted at 12:30 p.m. at the Roxy.

Norfolk $10 million lottery winner vows to take better care of himself from here on

NORFOLK -- Forty-one-year-old Verizon Field Technician Floyd Harvey of Norfolk says he has no plans to retire. In fact, the single father of one said he just wants life to continue as usual, even after winning a guaranteed minimum prize of $10,000,000 in a New York Lottery game.
In an interview with lottery officials, the 14-year Verizon vet said there’s only one change he knows he’ll have to make right away as he adjusts to life as a millionaire. “I’ll have to start taking better care of myself,” he joked.

CANTON – The Friends of the Canton Free Library will host their annual Book, Bake & Craft Sale Saturday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the downstairs section of the library, 8 Park St.
There will be baked goods (cakes, pies, specialty breads, cookies, etc.) and books (hard bund, paperbacks, books on tape, like-new best sellers, children’s books and magazines).
