The 20th Annual Old Fashioned Harvest Days presented by Madrid’s St. Lawrence Power and Equipment Museum held Labor Day weekend had returning displays while adding several new ones including the new Shoe Repair and Leather Shop open to the public for the very first time. Construction of the 16 x 20 foot facility began this past spring and was completed just in time for the Fall Exhibition. Vintage shoe and leather machines and materials fill its interior.

POTSDAM -- Democratic incumbent Addie J. Russell and Republican challenger Republican David Forsythe, candidates for the 118th Assembly race, will meet face-to-face in a public forum 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 20 at Clarkson University's Snell Room 213, on the hill campus in Potsdam.
The two candidates will take questions and discuss issues in front of a live audience and a media panel.
The two-hour forum will be recorded by Clarkson media students and rebroadcast on WCKN, cable channel 30.

NYPA to present results of marina study to local government task force in Massena on Oct. 19

MASSENA -- The New York Power Authority will present the results of its Marina Study to the Local Government Task Force 5:30 p.m. Oct. 19, 2010 at NYPA Visitors Center at Hawkins Point.
The "working meeting" will be open to the public but is intended to allow NYPA to present the study to the Task Force, according to Joe D. Gray, task force chairman and supervisor of the Town of Massena.
As a result, NYPA representatives will not be answering questions from the public, but task force members will, he said.

POTSDAM – Community Performance Series is pleased to present Baroque ensemble REBEL for a single performance Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hosmer Concert Hall at the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam.
REBEL (pronounced "Re-BEL") has been hailed by the New York Times as "sophisticated and beguiling" and is widely regarded as one of America's premiere ensembles specializing in 17th- and 18th-century repertoire.

Traditional French Canadian music and dance this evening in DeKalb

DEKALB – “Songs from the Kitchen” traditional French Canadian music and dance with Bernie Ouimet presented by the DeKalb Historical Association will be held Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Old Meetinghouse Museum, off Rt. 11 near Hermon-DeKalb Central School.
Those of Quebecois roots or who want to learn about it are invited to hear and see traditional music and dance traditionally kept alive at kitchen parties.
Bernie will perform on the button organ, singing ballads and rounds, and teaching folk history and culture.

Clarkson men's hockey team shuts out Bowling Green 4-0 in home opener

Junior Paul Karpowich (Thunder Bay, ONT) backstopped the Clarkson University Hockey team to its first shutout victory in over two years and the Golden Knights received another balanced offensive effort with four different goal scores as the Green and Gold opened their 20th season at Cheel Arena with a convincing 4-0 victory over Bowling Green before 2,203 fans on Friday night.
Clarkson (2-1) and the Falcons (0-3) will face off again in the non-league series on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Potsdam, NY.

Saints fall at Ferris State, 4-2 in men's hockey

Senior center Nate Hennig staked Ferris State to a two-goal lead early in the third period and the Bulldogs went on to a 4-2 win over St. Lawrence in the first game of a two game weekend series between the Saints and Ferris State in Big Rapids, MI Friday night.
The Bulldogs improve to 2-1-0 on the season while the Saints will take a 0-1-2 record into the Saturday night rematch.

Clarkson women skate to 1-1 tie against St. Lawrence

A hard-fought effort against its archrival enabled the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team to snap a four-game season-opening losing streak as the Golden Knights battled St. Lawrence to a 1-1 tie at Cheel Arena on Friday afternoon. Clarkson, which stands at 0-4-1 overall, and the Saints (1-1-1) will face off again on Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena, in another non-league contest beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Hampered by a penalty-filled first period, Clarkson fell into a 1-0 hole, but came out strong in the second frame to tie the game.

Saints women play to 1-1 draw with Clarkson

The St. Lawrence University women's hockey team earned a 1-1 tie with Clarkson University on Friday afternoon at Cheel Arena in a non-conference game between the two North Country rivals.
St. Lawrence (1-1-1) was helped by a solid 30-save performance by first-year goalie Caitlyn Lahonen, who stopped several point-blank chances by the Golden Knights in the final minutes of the game. Meanwhile, Clarkson snapped a four-game losing skid and moves to 0-4-1 on the young season.
