Brasher Falls Knights of Columbus hosting golf tournament June 11

WINTHROP – A golf tournament at Meadowbrook Golf Course Saturday, June 11, hosted by Brasher Falls Knights of Columbus, will benefit handicapped and needy children.
A 9 a.m. shotgun start gets things underway, with four-person, scramble, men’s, women’s, seniors and mixed teams welcome.
The cost is $15 per person, which includes $5 for skins and $5 for a 50/50 raffle. Greens fees and cart are not included.
Over $800 in prizes will be awarded.

DeKalb Junction 15th annual Community Lawn Sale June 4

DEKALB JUNCTION – The DeKalb Junction 15th annual Community Lawn Sale sponsored by the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce will be held on Saturday, June 4 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The chamber is offering free face painting and balloons. The DeKalb Junction Volunteer Fire Department is having a chicken and pork barbeque beginning at 2.
They are also sponsoring a co-ed volleyball tournament--contact Stacey Denesha, 347-5388. The department will also have spaces to rent for $10 in the fire hall to set up a yard sale--contact Larry Denesha, 854-2733.

Assembly approves bill expanding Ogdensburg Foreign Trade Zone

A measure approved in the state Assembly Wednesday could allow businesses in St. Lawrence County to compete better with foreign businesses.
Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell (D-Theresa) says that her bill to expand the Ogdensburg Foreign Trade Zone has passed the Assembly, and must now pass in the Senate before it is forwarded to the governor for his consideration..
Russell said that the measure expands the existing foreign trade zone to include all of St. Lawrence County.

Norfolk resident honored for service at Hepburn Library

NORFOLK – A Norfolk resident who has served the Hepburn Library of Norfolk for 22 years was recently honored at a reception sponsored by the library.
Malcolm Starks served 22 years as a library trustee and as library president for the last 19 of those years.

Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Clare. Mrs. Durham passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2001 at the Murphy Medical Center, Murphy, NC.

Mrs. Leonore R. “Jay” Molnar, age 91, of Potsdam, passed away on March 3, 2011 at the United Helpers Nursing Home in Ogdensburg, where she had been a resident since December 29, 2008. There will be a burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam, on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. with friends and relatives invited to attend. A reception and luncheon will follow the burial at the Potsdam Town and Country Club. Contributions in her memory can be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Potsdam. Potsdam UPS Store buys out The Copy Shop and Business Center

POTSDAM -- The UPS Store on outer Market Street in the Save-A-Lot plaza has acquired The Copy Shop and Business Center, 11 Maple St.
The Copy Shop will be closed within weeks, but employees Amanda Fonda and Janice Adderley will be joining the UPS staff.
Customers of The Copy Shop and Business Center can have their promotional and copying needs fulfilled at The UPS Store, but until the transition to the Market Street location is made, customers can still visit The Copy Shop.

Canton man who allegedly stole checks from mother now charged with possessing another woman's stolen credit cards

CANTON -- A Canton man charged in May with stealing checks from his mother and trying to forge and cash them on more than one occasion is now facing additional charges that he possessed stolen credit cards and other items from a purse taken from Massena on May 22.
Originally, St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies arrested Tyler D. Wood, 24, of 13 Pine St., on May 20 and charged him then with felony burglary.
