Jamboree for S. Edwards cancer patient Sunday

SOUTH EDWARDS – A jamboree for cancer patient Tom McFerran will be held Sunday, Oct. 10 at The Glow from 1 to 10 p.m.
There will be a DJ, bands, raffles, auctions, drinks and food.
A $5 donation is requested, and it includes food.

Evan Jamison Fund jamboree at Dar's Restaurant in Massena Oct. 10

MASSENA – The Evan Jamison Fund will be hosting a benefit jamboree at Dar’s Restaurant at the Quality Inn Sunday, Oct. 10, starting at 1 p.m.
Several local businesses have donated items to be raffled off at the event.
The jamboree will feature live music provided by host band Out of The Blue and local bands Long Shot, Kickin’ Back, Sweet Revenge, Dirty Sister and more.
Evan was a 20-year-old Massena High School graduate and SUNY Plattsburgh student who died unexpectedly on Aug. 15, 2010.

Norfolk Methodist Church moving church service into community Sunday, Oct. 10

NORFOLK – The pews will be empty, and the organ silent at Norfolk United Methodist Church, 9 W. Main St., on Sunday, Oct. 10.
But that’s not because Pastor Harold Wheat and the congregation are taking a Sunday off.
Pastor Wheat says, “During our regular Sunday service time we will move outside of the building and focus on community service projects.”
Parishioners plan five projects:
• The United Methodist Women will coordinate the preparation and serving of a meal to satisfy heart and body at the Norfolk Senior Center;

POTSDAM -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital has been supporting the North Country Grown Cooperative’s initiative of Buy Local, Buy Fresh, Buy Organic and has incorporated much of that produce into daily menu items available for patients, visitors, and staff.
In addition to introducing local foods into their café, the hospital has also been offering a larger selection of items on the salad and sandwich bar, health conscious to-go snacks, and hot breakfast items.

Ogdensburg Boneshakers' liquor license revoked

The state Liquor Authority has revoked the license of an Ogdensburg tavern for violations cited in 2009.
At the Sept. 22 full board meeting, the authority voted to revoke the license of Boneshakers on Lake Street in Ogdensburg, citing several violations.

Roo's Allen named offensive player of the week in women's soccer

CANTON--Sophomore forward Bailey Allen (Adams, N.Y.) of the women's soccer team has been named the Sunrise Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Allen scored three goals and set up another helping the Roos shut out Vermont Technical College 9-0.
Allen is tied for the team lead in goals (5) and total (12) and is tied for 10th in the conference in both categories.

Roo's Flores named defensive player of the week in men's soccer

CANTON--Junior goalie Homero Flores (Tamaulipas, Mexico) of the men's soccer team has been named the Sunrise Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Flores allowed just one goal in two games over the weekend. Flores stopped three shots in a 4-1 win over the College of St. Joseph and then turned aside five shots for his second career shutout as the Roos beat Vermont Technical College 1-0.
Flores has played every minute in goal this season and is second in the conference in goals-against average (1.30) and total saves (63). He also has an .840 save percentage.

John “Kahionhanoron” David, 82, St. Regis, Quebec

Mr. John “Kahionhanoron” David, 82, of 114 Hilltop Drive, passed away on Wednesday evening, October 6, 2010 at Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, Quebec after a short illness.
John was born on February 14, 1928 on St. Regis Island the son of William and Martha White David. He attended schools on St. Regis Island and CCVS in Cornwall. He later took welding courses in Toronto to become a certified welder. After his retirement, he took computer courses. On January 9, 1950, he married Mary A. Barnhart at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. George Brodeur, SJ, officiating.
