Snow to continue in St. Lawrence County Tuesday on top of snowfall Monday

After fairly heavy snowfall overnight, the National Weather Service predicts light snow through this evening in St. Lawrence County.
Snowfall today and tonight will amount to another inch or two, and more snow tomorrow, adding another one to three inches to what has already fallen.
Canadian Weather Office radar for the Ottawa vicinity, at http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/radar/index_e.html?id=XFT, shows precipitation looping around over southeast Ontario and moving slowly.

Art therapy for disabled begins in Potsdam Thursday

POTSDAM – Tracy Wannamaker, a certified Art Therapist has designed a series of classes for adults (age 21 and up) with disabilities, beginning Thursday Dec. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Each class will include music, movement and crafts and can accommodate a wide range of special needs. All classes are held on the second floor of Downtown Snell Hall. A wheelchair accessible elevator is available just beyond the main floor lobby.

University offering $60,000 scholarships to Clarkson School program for high schoolers

POTSDAM -- Clarkson University is offering five new $60,000 Clarkson School Presidential Scholarships for students interested in starting college early.
A number of St. Lawrence County students have taken advantage of the Clarkson School program over the years.
The Clarkson School is the university's early entrance college program for talented students who have completed the 11th grade and are ready to begin their college studies after what is typically the sophomore or junior year of high school.

Potsdam architect Rebecca Weld used a photo of the old Hotel Harrington found in the St. Lawrence County Historical Association archives to recreate her entry for this year’s Sugar & Spice Gingerbread Contest at TAUNY, an extraordinary rendering of the hotel made of gingerbread and other edible materials. Weld’s rendering will remain on display with other gingerbread houses at The TAUNY Center and North Country Folkstore, 53 Main St., Canton, until the Sugar & Spice exhibit closes on Thursday, Dec. 23. Holiday hours are Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.
SUNY Canton website receives 2 million hits in one year

CANTON -- For the first time, SUNY Canton's website has had more than two million hits in a year during 2010 and attracted more visitors from more locations than ever before.
Overall website traffic is up significantly from 2009's year-end total of slightly more than 1.9 million visits. The website received a total of more than 4.6 million page views during 2010 and frequently surpassed 10,000 visitors a day during the academic year.

Postponed NorthStars volleyball tryouts now scheduled for Dec. 19

POTSDAM -- The NorthStars Volleyball Club tryout originally scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 12, has been rescheduled to Sunday, Dec. 19, from 2-4 p.m. at SUNY Potsdam's Maxcy Hall.
Any other weather-related changes to the tryout will be reported locally on 99.3 FM WSNN.
The club, coached on a volunteer basis by SUNY Potsdam volleyball head coach Steve Pike, comprises girls ages 18 and under who reside in the North Country.

Massena's Trinity Catholic School selling tickets for new Chevy Equinox or $25,000 cash

MASSENA – Trinity Catholic School is once again selling tickets for a 2011 Chevy Equinox or $25,000 cash as one of the school’s major fundraisers. The drawing will be held Sunday, Jan. 2.
Five runners-up will win cash prizes of $100.
Tickets for $10 each can be purchased after Masses at Massena’s Catholic churches or at St. Lawrence Centre Mall at the Trinity booth.
School officials report ticket sales are down about 25 percent compared with this time last year.

Lawrence Historical Association plans holiday open house Dec. 16

LAWRENCE – The Lawrence Historical Association will host a holiday open house on Thursday, Dec. 16 from 2 to 7 p.m., followed by their regular meeting.

Hood records career-high for Clarkson in men's basketball loss to Medaille

Buffalo, NY - Senior forward Jonathan Hood (Cortlandt Manor, NY) set another career-high in points, scoring 23 points and eight rebounds for the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team in a 88-73 loss to Medaille College Monday evening.
The Golden Knights closed out the first semester with a record of 5-2 overall while the Mavericks improved to 6-3.
