Cinema 10 presents “Metropolis” Monday in Potsdam

POTSDAM – Cinema 10 continues its fall 2010 season on Monday, Nov. 8 with a showing of “Metropolis,” a digitally restored re-released version of the classic silent film.
This is the celebrated Fritz Lang masterpiece of science fiction and German expressionism that has been nearly perfectly restored with almost a hundred pieces of recovered footage.

Chef and tv personality "The Food Dude," Kevin T. Roberts to appear at SUNY Canton on Tuesday

CANTON -- SUNY Canton students will get a taste of how to maintain healthy eating habits from chef and television personality "The Food Dude," Kevin T. Roberts.
The host of TLC's "BBQ PitMasters" will speak at the college at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9 in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center's Kingston Theater.
Roberts is most recognized because of his top-ten finalist finish on "The Next Food Network Star." He has been on more than 100 national and local television shows, including "The Today Show," CBS' "The Early Show" and is a regular on "Better TV."

Kyle Flanagan leads Saints to weekend sweep in men's ice hockey

Sophomore center Kyle Flanagan scored two goals and assisted on a third and freshman goaltender Matt Weninger made 31 saves for his second straight victory as St. Lawrence University swept its opening weekend of ECAC Hockey competition with a 4-1 win over Colgate at Appleton Arena Saturday night
The Saints, 3-0 winners over Cornell on Friday, are now 2-4-3 overall and 2-0-0 in league play while Colgate, which tied at Clarkson on Friday, is 2-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the league.

Knights fall to Cornell in men's ice hockey

Nationally-ranked Cornell University put an end to the Clarkson University Hockey team’s four-game unbeaten stretch (2-0-2) by posting its first win of the season, a convincing 6-1 victory over the Golden Knights in ECAC Hockey action Saturday night before 2,397 fans at Cheel Arena.
The Big Red’s freshman goaltender Andy Iles made 35 saves and six different Cornell players scored goals, including five who collected their first goal of the season.

Knights place second at volleyball Liberty League championships

Canton, NY – Day two of the Liberty League Tournament treated the Clarkson University Volleyball team much more kindly than the opening day, as the Golden Knights dominated first Vassar, and then Skidmore College in the match up between the top two seeds, 25-12, 25-20, 25-22 as the Green and Gold finished second at championships at Burkman Gymnasium held on the campus of St. Lawrence University.
The Golden Knights closed out the regular season with a record of 27-9, finishing 3-1 at the Liberty League Tournament. Skidmore went just 1-3, and finished its season at 24-9.

Clarkson swimmers come up short against Oswego

Oswego, NY - Junior Mike Rowe (Glenville, NY) won a pair of individual events for the Clarkson University Swim team, but the Golden Knights fell to Oswego State in a dual meet Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights' men fell 117-103, while the women dropped their meet to the Lakers 121-82. Clarkson returns to action next Saturday when it hosts St. Michael's at Fuller Pool.

SLU gridmen lose first conference game to Rochester, 34-14

The St. Lawrence University football team suffered its first conference loss of the 2010 season on Saturday afternoon, as the University of Rochester spoiled the Saints' bid to clinch the Liberty League title by the score of 34-14 at Edwin Fauver Stadium in Rochester, NY.
The Saints, now 4-1 in conference play, can still win the conference title today if Rensselaer defeats Hobart. However, if Hobart wins, St. Lawrence can earn the championship next Saturday against WPI at Leckonby Stadium. Rochester improves to 3-5 (2-3) after picking up its third straight win.

NCAA Bound: Saints clinch 2010 Liberty League title in football

Rensselaer's Peter Nilson connected with a 34-yard field goal as time expired, lifting the Engineers to a 24-21 victory over Hobart College on Saturday in Troy, NY. The Hobart loss clinches at least a share of the 2010 Liberty League championship for St. Lawrence. With all tie-breakers in their corner, the Scarlet and Brown are assured of a bid to the 2010 NCAA Tournament, the first for the program since 1982.

SLU captures volleyball program’s first Liberty League crown

The St. Lawrence University volleyball team clinched its first ever Liberty League Championship on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over the No. 2 seed Skidmore College Thoroughbreds.
The Saints dropped Union in the fourth and final match, moving to 26-10 on the season and going undefeated at the Liberty League tournament.

Tournament Most Valuable Player James Stewart set up the game-winning goal with a perfect outlet pass to freshman forward Adrian Bucksam and anchored a St. Lawrence defense which allowed Rensselaer a total of seven shots and just one on goal as the Saints won their fourth Liberty League tournament championship with a 2-0 victory over the Engineers on Sandy MacAllaster Field Saturday afternoon.
