Cinema 10 presents “Wasteland” in Potsdam March 21

POTSDAM – Cinema 10 will present “Wasteland,” a film that follows artist Vik Muniz on a visit back to Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump, 7:15 p.m. Monday, March 21 at the Roxy Theater, Main Street.
The 2010 movie is directed by Lucy Walker, Karen Harley and João Jardim. The documentary was filmed over three years.

Saxophone and piano concert at SUNY Potsdam March 21

POTSDAM -- Saxophonist Christopher Creviston and pianist Hannah Gruber will present a concert of music for saxophone and piano at SUNY Potsdam Hosmer hall 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 21.
The duo's program will include a variety of music by noted composers: Francis Poulenc, William Bolcom (Pulitzer Prize winner), Claude Delvincourt (Prix de Rome winner), and Dorothy Chang (Jacob Druckman Orchestra Prize and Charles Ives Scholarship winner).
Creviston and Gruber are both professors at the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam.

Pavlus is USTFCCCA indoor women's Athlete of the Year

St. Lawrence University senior Wendy Pavlus has been named the NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and is the first Division III athlete to win both Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year and Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in the history of the USTFCCCA awards program.

Saints softball team splits in final day in Florida

After falling in two games on Thursday, the St. Lawrence University softball team split its last two games of the spring trip on Friday on its final day at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. The Saints defeated Hamilton College 1-0 before falling to Wisconsin-Oshkosh 4-2.
The Saints conclude their spring trip with an even 6-6 record.

Cataldo, Camels drop Saints in womens lacrosse, 13-8

Caitlin Cataldo turned in a 14-save performance for Connecticut College on Friday, leading the Camels to a 13-8 victory over the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team in West Palm Beach, FL. The Saints, who outshot their opponents 35-27, were led by junior Kendall Harty's three-goal showing.
The loss moves St. Lawrence to 1-3 on the season after a 1-2 trip to Florida, while Connecticut College improves to 2-2 overall.

Presentation March 19 in Potsdam about Ethopianian school built with funds raised in North Country

POTSDAM -- The Anthropology Club at SUNY Potsdam is hosting a presentation Saturday, March 19 about the elementary school in Gembeltu, Ethiopia that was recently built after funds were raised here in the North Country.
The presentation will be at 4:30 p.m. in the college’s Kellas 103.
“We would like to let the donors and community members see where the money was spent,” said Alex French, one of three Potsdam alumni who organized the construction of the school in the Rift Valley.

March 21 session in Potsdam to focus on the student-athlete and college recruiting

POTSDAM – “The Student-Athlete and College Recruiting” is the topic of a sessions 6:30 p.m. March 21 at Potsdam Central High School.
Athletes in grades eight to 12 and their parents are invited to learn prepare for collegee athletics and the recruiting process, receive scholarship offers and “market” yourself to college coaches.
The session will also offer ways to seek grant funding at Division III schools and explain how to prepare physically to become a college athlete.
