North Country maple business could nearly double using untapped trees

Northern New York’s maple sugaring industry has the potential to be a nearly $10 million per year industry, according to a survey by the Cornell University Uihlein Maple Forest and Extension Center at Lake Placid.
The current value of the maple industry in Northern New York is more than $5.5 million.
In the past five years, the number of maple taps in northern New York has increased 26 percent, adding more than $1.1 million in farm-gate revenues.

Saxophone and piano faculty recital at SUNY Potsdam March 21

POTSDAM -- The Crane School of Music presents saxophonist Christopher Creviston and pianist Hannah Gruber in a faculty recital Monday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Hosmer Concert Hall at SUNY Potsdam.
The program will include three movements from Francis Poulenc's "Sonata for Flute and Piano," two movements from Dorothy Chang's "Two Preludes," six movements from Claude Delvincourt's "Croquembouches" and four movements from William Bolcom's "Concert Suite."
The concert is free and open to the public.

(Lorain, Ohio)- SUNY Canton lost both games of a doubleheader at Notre Dame College on Saturday falling 4-2 and 8-1.
In the opening game Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, N.Y.) and Thomas Fearon (Ajax, Ontario) each doubled to lead the Roos (0-13). Josh Soffer (Ottawa, Ontario) struck out five batters and allowed six hits and one walk in six innings as he took the loss on the mound.

Hawks top Bears, 15-11, in men's lacrosse

ONEONTA, N.Y.—The Hartwick Hawks (4-2) fought off the SUNY Potsdam men’s lacrosse team (3-2) late for a 15-11 victory on Saturday afternoon. Junior Pete Pike (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown) led the Bears with two goals and two assists and sophomore Derek Frost (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) had a goal and two assists. Dave Aitchison had three goals and four assists for Hartwick and teammate Harry Hughes finished with five goals and an assist.

Late charge by RIT sends Knights lacrosse team to defeat

Potsdam, NY - Playing its third ranked opponent in eight days, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team came up on the short end for the second time in 2011 as RIT's Jordan MacIntosh scored two goals in the final five minutes to send the Golden Knights to a 12-10 loss Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.
The Golden Knights saw their record fall to 3-2 on the season, while the eighth-ranked Tigers improved to 4-0. Clarkson will host Geneseo State next Saturday.

Cook pitches Saints to 3-2 win over Otterbein, Nichols wins Friday game

Senior pitcher Chris Cook pitched a complete game six-hitter as St. Lawrence University's baseball team won its second straight with a 3-2 win over Otterbein in Florida on Thursday.
Cook walked one and struck out six, allowing one earned run as the Saints came from a 2-1 deficit with two runs in the top of the sixth to win the game. SLU, now 2-4, will conclude their southern trip with games against Nichols on Friday and North Park on Saturday.
