Nicholas Allen Swinyer, son of Ron and Tiffany Swinyer, Newton Falls, has graduated from Jefferson Community College with an associate degree in hospitality and tourism.

His final GPA was 3.55.

Nicholas has been accepted in the Culinary Art Institute in Hyde Park, N.Y.

His studies there will begin in March 2011.

In response to “Not Moms’ Fault” (Sound Off, January 19-25): Even if your husband is backed up in his child support payments, it does not mean that you need to drag your kids into your argument by badmouthing their father as an excuse for your having to go without. However he may be lacking, he is still their father. Is it really fair to your children to influence them to take sides in your argument?

This is probably an unusual letter for you to receive.

I write this in memory of my wife, Betty. We would have been married 30 years in February, if she had lived that long.

My wife started having very bad headaches in September 2010. We took her to several doctors. They said it was just the weather, among other things they told us.

Eventually, we took her to a specialist in Ohio. She found out she had a brain tumor by her right ear.

They tried to operate on it but she passed away on the operating table.

POTSDAM -- Once a month an evening of prayer is held at North Country Community Church, 97 Elm St.

The event is open to the community and anyone interested interceding for the North Country and the world is invited.

This month's meeting will take place Friday, Jan. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m.

People are invited to come and go as they need to during the evening.

CANTON -- St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES is again offering the SAT workshop to area high-school juniors who plan to take the SAT in May or June.

The classes will be held at the St. Lawrence Valley Educational Services Center, 30 Court St., Canton, on eight Sundays Feb. 27 through May 1.

Students in Canton, Clifton-Fine, Gouverneur, Hermon-DeKalb, Heuvelton, Madrid-Waddington and Morristown districts must register with their guidance counselors before the Feb. 4 deadline.
