Potsdam shoppers to be treated to freebies, specials at Saturday and Sunday's Super Holiday Weekend

POTSDAM – Holiday shoppers in Potsdam will be treated to a few extra freebies and specials this Saturday and Sunday as the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce celebrates its Super Holiday Weekend.
Chamber Director Marylee Ballou said 27 businesses are participating in this year’s event, designed to remind consumers that local merchants are ready to serve them during the holiday season.
“All of the businesses participating are offering something. There are sales, specials, activities, open houses and drawings,” Ballou said. “It’s a nice way to support businesses in Potsdam.”

Winthrop resident named to Cooley Law School dean's list

Amanda Dox of Winthrop made the dean’s list in her sixth semester of study at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing, Mich.
She is a graduate of St. Lawrence University and Hermon-DeKalb Central High School.
She is the daughter of Randy and Judy Dox.
Cooley Law School is the largest law school in the nation. Founded in 1972, it operates J.D. programs across Michigan in Ann Arbor, Auburn Hills, Grand Rapids and Lansing.

Potsdam teen bowls perfect game at Market Lanes

POTSDAM – Steven Hazelton recently bowled a 300 game while in Junior League play at Market Lanes.
This is Steve’s first 300 and he is only 16 years old. He says he hopes to bowl many more in the future.
He bowled this in team play with his team mates watching: Ann Shatraw, Jeremey Waite, and Aaron Clement.

Waddington Family Resource Center outerwear drop-off to be held Dec. 4, 5

WADDINGTON – The Waddington Family Resource Center is in need of winter outerwear.
Items needed include men’s, women’s, children's coats (new or like new), boots (new or like new), mittens, gloves, and scarves.
The drop off location is St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 129 Lincoln Ave., Waddington.
They can be dropped off Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to noon.
On Sunday feel free to stay for the service beginning at 10 a.m.
Refreshments will be served.

Potsdam Building Blocks Day Care holiday bazaar at middle school Saturday

POTSDAM – Potsdam Building Blocks Day Care will hold a Holiday Bazaar at the center located behind the AAK Middle School located at 68 Lawrence Ave. on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Gently used clothing, toys, holiday and household items, as well as baked goods will be sold.

Holiday music, refreshments highlight SLCHA's open house in Canton Dec. 5

CANTON – Festive floral arrangements, fabulous refreshments and fanciful holiday music will fill the Silas Wright House when friends and neighbors gather at 3 E. Main St., for the St. Lawrence County Historical Association's Holiday Events.
The SLCHA's Annual Holiday Open House will be held on Friday, Dec. 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. and the Holiday Tea will be held on Sunday, Dec. 5 from 1 to 4 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

NYPA's free holiday movies shown Fridays in December

MASSENA—The New York Power Authority (NYPA)’s December matinee schedule will include a selection of holiday movies featuring contemporary themes and new twists on seasonal traditions. The movie presentations are admission-free and perfect for the entire family.
The movies will be shown Fridays in December at the Frank S. McCullough, Jr. Hawkins Point Visitors Center auditorium at 1:30 p.m. Free popcorn will be available for the movie showings.

'FIRST' robotics tournament set for Clarkson Walker Arena Dec. 3 - 4

POTSDAM -- Robots and their handlers will invade Walker Center this weekend when Clarkson University hosts the fourth annual FIRST Championship Tournament.
More than 350 students and their coaches, comprising 34 teams, are expected to participate in the two-day event. There are teams from 11 local school districts and two private schools, as well as teams from western New York and Pennsylvania.

Cardinals hoopsters slip past Saints 62-58

The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team was narrowly defeated by Plattsburgh State 62-58 in the Burkman Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
The Scarlet and Brown fall to 1-3 while the Cardinals improve to 4-1.
"We continue to work to improve and are gaining valuable experience," said Head Coach Chris Downs. "We will be ready for league play in January."
Junior Ralph Temguoa had a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds for the Saints. Classmate Garrett Sharlow added 12 points and six rebounds, while recording three steals.
