Feb. 2 women's hockey game at Plattsburgh rescheduled

The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey game at No. 3 Plattsburgh originally slated for Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m., has been postponed due to inclement weather.
The game will be made up this Friday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. in Plattsburgh.

Vincent "Vinnie" Willard, 62, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur.
A funeral service will be Saturday, February 5th at 11:00 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Karen Taylor, pastor of the United Church of Richville officiating and a luncheon to follow at the Richville Vol. Fire Department. Calling hours are today, Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Lorna L. Bell, age 77, a resident of the Lisbon ICF will be held on Saturday (Feb 5, 2011) at 1:00 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Schirmer officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Rensselaer Falls Cemetery.
Calling hours will also be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Lorna died Wednesday morning (Feb 2, 2011) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center. Arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass for Douglas G. Hurteau, age 84, of Ogdensburg will be held on Saturday, February 5th, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Father Joe Morgan as celebrant. Entombment will follow the Mass at Foxwood Memorial Park. Calling Hours will be held on Friday February 4th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home. Mr. Hurteau passed away at his home on January 31st, while under the care of his family and Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.

Funeral services for 69 year old Philip D. Paro, 1 Maple Street, Norwood, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood. A spring burial will be held in Bayside Cemetery, Canton.
Friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mr. Paro passed away Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 1.
Bruce Lee. Hewlett, 62, formerly of Russell

Bruce Lee Hewlett, 62, died January 30, 2011 in New York. He was born in Watertown. Mr. Hewlett graduated from Knox Memorial High School in Russell, and SUNY Canton.
He is survived by his mother, Marion Giffin of Russell; a sister, Karen T. Rocca of Clermont, FL; his daughter, Tara L. Hewlett of Chicago, IL; his son, Brett C. Hewlett of Springfield, PA; a niece, Kristie Green of Orlando, FL; and a nephew, Jason Rocca of St. Petersburg, FL and Maria Davila of New York, NY.

Massena man charged with burglary for allegedly stealing three snowmobiles

State police in Malone arrested Matthew C. LaBrake, 24, of Massena, for two counts of third-degree burglary Tuesday, for allegedly stealing three snowmobiles in the town of Bellmont.
LaBrake was also charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and possession of a hypodermic instrument.
LaBrake was arraigned before Bellmont Town Justice Joseph Perry and committed to the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Cooperative Extension class 'Take Control of Your Business: Managing Cash Flow' in Canton Feb. 15

CANTON – A two-hour class “Take Control of Your Business: Managing Cash Flow,” is from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15 at the St. Lawrence County Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Farm, Rt. 68.
Course instructor is Anita Deming, executive director of Cornell Cooperative Extension Essex County.
Deming says, “We want our farmers to be prepared for those times when feed and other costs may be high and milk prices and dairy income may be low as well as take advantage of good recordkeeping as a way to improve and plan for profitability.”

Northern Symphonic Winds concert at SUNY Potsdam Sunday

POTSDAM – The Northern Symphonic Winds, conducted by Brian Doyle, will perform a concert on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 pm in Hosmer Hall, SUNY Potsdam.
The group’s brass section will open the program with the “wildly swinging” Jazzalogue No.1 by Joseph Turrin.
Members of the woodwind section join the brass for Hill Song No. 2, by Percy Grainger.
Clarinet Raphael Sanders takes the stage as soloist in Brooklyn Bridge, written in 2005 by young composer Michael Daugherty. Sanders is an Associate Professor of Clarinet at the Crane School of Music.
