Colton Winter Fest Quilt Show in four locations Saturday & Sunday

COLTON -- The Colton Winter Fest Quilt Show will be held Jan. 29-30 in the Colton Hepburn Library, Colton Town Hall, Zion Episcopal Church and Catamount Lodge.
Hours will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday.
Old, new, large and small quilts and quilted items will be on display in the town buildings. The downtown locations are and within easy walking distance of each other.

Chicken and biscuit dinner at Ogdensburg Amvets Friday

OGDENSBURG -- A chicken and biscuits dinner is set for this Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Amvets Post 19, 308 Isabella Rd. Complete dinner is $6.50; you can eat it there or take it out.

Clarkson prof cited by U. S. Interior Department for 'exemplary service' for work with Gulf oil spill

POTSDAM – A Clarkson University professor has been cited by the U.S. Interior Department for “exemplary service to the nation” during last year's Deepwater Horizon crisis.
Clarkson University Civil and Environmental Engineering Prof. Poojitha Yapa recently received the Director's Award from the U.S. Geological Survey of the Department of the Interior for his work during Deepwater Horizon oil spill into the Gulf of Mexico last spring and summer.

Potsdam Central Class of '81 planning reunion for July 1, 2

POTSDAM – Potsdam Central School’s Class of 1981 is having their 30 year high school reunion on July 1-2. Family, friends, teachers and staff are encouraged to attend.

Canton Goldenaires again accepting reservations for singing valentines on Feb. 14

CANTON -- The Canton Goldenaires again this year are offering their special Singing Valentines, this year on Monday Feb. 14.
The Singing Valentines will be delivered between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for a fee of $35. Proceeds will benefit St. Lawrence County high school talent with a $500 scholarship. Scholarship applications are being given to high school guidance counselors throughout the county.

Lisbon FD Snowmobile Drags Sunday, Jan. 30

LISBON – The Lisbon Fire Department Snowmobile Drags are set for Sunday, Jan. 30.
They will start at noon near the Lisbon American Legion post on Cty. Rt. 10.
There will be racing in a studded/stock class, improved classes, trail class, a vintage class for the first time, and a class for kids.
There is single elimination in each class.
Registration ends at 11 a.m. It is $10 per sled per class. Half of registration fees will go to first, second and third place prizes. A trophy goes to the winner in each class.

Newton Falls resident graduates from Jefferson Community College

Nicholas Allen Swinyer, son of Ron and Tiffany Swinyer, Newton Falls, has graduated from Jefferson Community College with an associate degree in hospitality and tourism.
His final GPA was 3.55.
Nicholas has been accepted in the Culinary Art Institute in Hyde Park, N.Y.
His studies there will begin in March 2011.

Two big northern pike caught on the same day by Corey Adams--18.6 pounds and 19.9 pounds, 41 inches long caught an hour and a half apart on Cranberry Lake.
Temperatures as low a -26 degrees hampered firefighters early this morning as fire torn through a house on NYS Hwy. 37 in Hammond. Eight fire departments responded and two firefighters were reported injured. The home has been declared a total loss, according to a story from WWTI-tv.
