Ogdensburg sets meetings to get citizen input on city plan

OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg wants citizen input in the city’s planning for the future, and has set up a series of meetings and workshops to get it.
“The City of Ogdensburg values an engaged citizenry and is committed to involving people in crafting the future of the City,” said the announcement from City Manager Arthur Sciorra’s office.
The first meeting will take place July 21. All these meetings begin at 6 p.m. at the Dobisky Visitor Center.

$17 K in scholarships each going to Heuvelton, Richville students attending SUNY Oswego

OSWEGO – Two St. Lawrence County students have received $17,600 Presidential Scholarships to attend SUNY Oswego,
Keith D. Gallucci of Heuvelton and Timothy C. Bowman of Willow Street in Richville received the merit scholarships.
The awards recognize students' past academic achievements and potential for success, college officials say.

Three to be inducted into SUNY Potsdam Bears Hall of Fame in 2011

Three former SUNY Potsdam student-athletes will be inducted into the Bears Hall of Fame as part of the 2011 induction ceremony and luncheon on Saturday, July 16, at Knowles Hall on the SUNY Potsdam campus.
The induction ceremony takes place during the school’s annual Reunion Weekend from July 14-17.
Kregg Bruno, Renee (Hatter) Hook ’86 and Jodie (Schoppmann) Robertson ’06 will become the 31st class inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inception in 1979.

County says it wants sales tax hike to ease burden on property tax payers

St. Lawrence County is seeking home-grown support for changes to state law that are required if the county is to increase sales taxes and moderate increases in property taxes.
St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators Chair Sallie Brothers said that the desired action from Albany is “an issue of fairness in making sure that all revenue options are available to local governments as they try to balance the need to pay for both mandated and desirable services for the benefit of the public they serve without the burden falling solely upon the property taxpayers.”

Amber Nezezon to perform July 17 at Riverview Park in Gouverneur

GOUVERNEUR – The fifth annual Summer Concert Series at Riverview Park pavilion continues Sunday, July 17 with fiddler Amber Nezezon and a guest performers.
All concerts are held on Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m., rain or shine. They are free to the public, but donations are welcome.
Future concerts in the series include:
