Norwood man killed after truck strikes snow bank and overturns in Colton

COLTON – A Norwood man died Tuesday afternoon after he lost control of his pickup truck on slippery pavement on NYS Hwy. 56 and overturned, according to state police.
Police said the accident occurred about 3:34 p.m.
Philip D. Paro, 69, was killed after his northbound 2004 Ford Pickup crossed the center line and struck a snow embankment on the other side of the road, causing the vehicle to flip onto the passenger's side.
Paro was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

The ECAC Hockey campaign is winding down, but the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team is starting to heat up. Winners of four straight and five of their last six, the Golden Knights seemed to be hitting stride at just the ride time with postseason play quickly approaching.

Clarkson battles Cornell and Colgate in Central NY

After a rough weekend at Cheel Arena where the Clarkson University Hockey team lost a pair of one-goal games, the Golden Knights take to the road for the always tough trip to Central NY this weekend. The Golden Knights, guided by eighth-year head coach George Roll, associate coach Greg Drechsel and assistant coach Chris Rogles, will face off at Cornell University for a 7:00 p.m. game at Lynah Rink in Ithaca on Friday and then play Colgate University in a 7:00 p.m. game on Saturday at Starr Rink in Hamilton, which will be televised live by Time Warner Cable.

Evelyn Green Lovely, 94, Hammond

Graveside services for Evelyn Green Lovely, age 94, of 3268 County Route 6, Hammond, will be held in the spring. Arrangements are with Frary Funeral Home. Mrs. Lovely passed away on January 30, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Home with her family at her bedside.
Mrs. Lovely is survived by three sons, Irving William Green and his wife Judy of Ogdensburg, Theron Green and his wife Susan of Morristown and John Green and his wife Rose of Edwardsville; one daughter, Jane Black and her husband David of Winthrop; and eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Dahlia M. Rogofsky, age 63, of Moira, passed away unexpectedly on January 30, 2011 at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. She was born on August 26, 1947 in Balboa, Panama the daughter of the late Daniel and Velma (Mignano) Altman. She attended Glendale High School in California. Dahlia worked as a certified Home health aide in the North Country and recently had been working for Titus Mountain in Malone.

A Mass of Resurrection for Isabel L. White, formerly of West Hatfield St. Massena will be held Saturday (Feb. 5, 2011) at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Donald J. Manfred presiding. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Brasher Falls, in the spring. Friends and family may call on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.

CPH physicians issue warnings to help patients prepare for upcoming storm

POTSDAM -- With up to a foot of snow expected to hit upstate New York, Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s primary care practice physicians and emergency room physicians are issuing warnings designed to help people prepare for bad weather and stay healthy through the storm.
“Some folks were caught off guard during the ice storm of 1998, and we want to ensure we don’t see that pattern repeating itself,” said Dr. Reinier Ramirez, a primary care practitioner with Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Norfolk Community Health Center.
