Selma Thagard appointed assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at Clarkson

POTSDAM – Selma Mededovic Thagard has been appointed assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at Clarkson University. She began teaching this fall.
Thagard received her bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Zagreb in Croatia and her Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Florida State University. Her Ph.D. research earned the distinction as the best Ph.D. research work in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at Florida State.

POTSDAM – Lei Wu has been appointed assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Clarkson University. He started teaching this fall and is offering a course in power transmission and distribution and operation and control of electric power systems.

Christine is a 2005 graduate of Lisbon Central School. She graduated from SUNY Canton in 2007 and SUNY Institute of Technology in 2010 with a degree in health information management. She is employed as a secretary with Star Route Auto Service, Canton.

Lyle Martin Haggett, 91, of Bradenton, Florida and formerly of Norwood, passed away October 3 at Westminster Manor in Bradenton where he had been a resident for several weeks.
DeKalb apartment tenants catch alleged burglar entering through window, hold him until sheriff's deputies arrive

DEKALB JUNCTION – Apartment residents held an alleged burglar until St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene early Saturday morning after they caught him climbing into a bedroom window.
Deputies said Jacob D. Martinez, 18, of 1 Fisher St., Canton, was charged with third degree attempted burglary, a felony, fourth degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, and trespassing.
He was caught entering the bedroom of an apartment attached to Dale’s Grocery, 4327 U.S. Hwy. 11 by the apartment tenants, who called 911 at 12:16 a.m., deputies said.

St. Lawrence County Arts Council conducting membership drive

POTSDAM – This fall, the St. Lawrence County Arts Council is conducting a membership drive across the North Country region.
Over 900 membership invitation packages have been mailed out to encourage individuals and families, artists or not, to join the organization.
Members are part of the largest network of artists, cultural organizations, and arts supporters in Northern New York.
