Massena man arrested on multiple alcohol, drug charges including three felonies
LOUISVILLE – A Massena man was held after being arrested on numerous alcohol- and drug-related charges including three felonies at the intersection of state routes 56 and 37 early this morning, according to state police.
Mark P. Perkins, 26, Massena, was charged shortly after 2:29 a.m. with criminal possession of a controlled substance third degree-narcotic drug with intent to sell, driving while intoxicated-previous conviction within past ten years, and aggravated unlicensed operation first degree, all felonies, police said.
Mary D. Calnon, 99, passed away on August 21, 2010 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, New York surrounded by her loving family. A long-time resident of upstate New York, Mrs. Calnon had lived with family in Spencerport, New York for the past six years.
She was born in Potsdam on March 1, 1911 to Jeremiah and Nora Sullivan Donahue. Raised on the family farm, she attended Potsdam Schools and graduated as Valedictorian of Potsdam High School in 1927. She received a certificate in teaching from Potsdam Normal School and later earned a Masters in Education from SUNY Potsdam.
Funeral Services for Ruth Hunter, age 74, of 706 Renseallar Ave. Ogdensburg will be held Wednesday, August 25th at 10 a.m. with the Reverend F. James Shurtleff officiating at Notre Dame Church. Entombment will be at Foxwood Mausoleum following mass. Ms. Hunter passed away peacefully at her home Sunday morning. Shirley A. Hays, age 69, of Gouverneur, passed away on August 21, 2010 following a car accident on US Hwy. 11.
Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Wednesday from 5 - 8 p.m. Her funeral service will be on Thursday, August 26th at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Father Stephen Rocker officiating. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Gouverneur.
Angela Rose Scott, age 8, of Gouverneur died on August 21, 2010 following a car accident on US HWY 11.
Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Tuesday from 5 - 8 p.m. Her funeral service will be on Wednesday, August 25th at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Greg Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Natural Bridge.
Angela was born on August 28, 2001 in Watertown to Jessica Lynn Scott and Randy Way, Jr. She was about to enter third grade at East Side Elementary School, Gouverneur.
Many of the 72 individual participants as well as members of 17 teams race off to a fast start Saturday in the Norwood Beach Triathlon at the Norwood Beach. The race consisted of a ¼-mile open water swim, 15-mile bike and 4-mile run. Proceeds benefited the John C. Purvis Scholarship Fund and St. Lawrence County Health Initiative. Rain postpones Mohawk Raceway 'Battle at Eastern Door 100'
AKWESASNE -- Persistent rain showers forced Mohawk International Raceway and World of Outlaws officials to postpone Saturday's "Battle at Eastern Door 100" for the World of Outlaws Late Model series.
The "Battle at Eastern Door 100" has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 1, with a 7 p.m. starting time.
When action resumes on Wednesdsay, the program will feature the "last chance" Late Model B-Main, which will transfer the final qualifiers into the 100-lap feature event.
The Battle at Eastern Door 100 will pay $20,000 to win, with a total purse of $120,000.

Two killed in Route 11 collision near Gouverneur
ROSSIE – Two people were killed Saturday afternoon in a two-car accident on NYS Hwy. 11 near the Gouverneur town line.
State police say their preliminary investigation indicates a 2008 Dodge pick-up truck operated by Shawn M. Trimm, 32, of Gouverneur, was northbound when it collided shortly before 3:21 p.m. with a southbound 1998 Plymouth van operated by Shirley A. Hays, 69, of Gouverneur.
