Jo-Ann Woodrow, 43, passed away Saturday at University Hospital, Syracuse. Calling hours will be Saturday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Children in the Hammond/Morristown Home Based Head Start Program recently took a field trip to the Morristown Fire Station. This educational trip taught children and their families about fire safety and fire prevention. Massena man vying for trip to Guatemala in '2010 Sexiest Vegetarian Over 50' contest

MASSENA – A Massena man is hoping to be named a “2010 Sexiest Vegetarian Over 50” contest and win a trip to Guatemala.
Ty Danboise is one of ten male and ten female finalists in the contest, sponsored by PETAPrime.org, a new Web site from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as PETA.
Danboise is now in the second of three rounds. The winners will receive a five-night “experience” at Laguna Lodge, a 100 percent vegetarian luxurious natural eco-resort in Guatemala.

Santa to lead the way for Canton 'Holiday of Lights' on Friday

CANTON – Thousands of tiny twinkling white lights will mark the way as Santa Claus rolls down Main Street escorted by a Canton Police cruiser during Canton’s annual Holiday of Lights. This year’s event will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 26, on the village green.
Brad Mintener, event organizer, says the white lights have special meaning in Canton.
“We started the tradition of decorating downtown with little white lights, and now about 20 communities in the North Country do it,” he said.

Jim Kenney of Massena recently harvested this 8-pointer while hunting with his father-in-law (Daryl Dufrane) at his camp in Hopkinton.
This is a 7-and-half-year-old, 10-point taken in Norfolk recently by Mike Mcfaddin. He weighed 220 live and dressed out to 175 lbs. He also scored 124" Boone and Crockett.

Sarah Sachs of Potsdam Public Library said she was recently contacted by the show’s producers, who asked her for a scanned copy of the NCTW front-page article from Oct. 13-19, “Food Stamp Recipients in County Up 60% in Three Years” by associate editor Maureen Piché.
