Ogdensburg North Pole Satellite Office to hold lighting ceremony with Santa Friday

OGDENSBURG – The North Pole Satellite Office will hold a Grand Lighting Ceremony Friday, Nov. 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Flat Iron Park, Main and Ogden streets.
Santa will arrive with a parade of children and live nativity.
The event is free and children are welcome to join the parade.

Parishville Hilltoppers holding Round and Square Thanksgiving Dance Nov. 26

PARISHVILLE – The Parishville Hilltoppers will hold a round and square dance Friday, Nov. 26 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Parishville Firemen’s Hall, Rutmen Road.
The Classic Country band will perform. Refreshments will be served. A $3 per person donation is requested.

SUNY Canton's financial aid director honored at conference

CANTON -- SUNY Canton's director of financial aid was recently honored for her commitment and outstanding efforts in area high schools.
Kerrie L. Cooper, Madrid, was awarded the New York State Financial Aid Administrators' Association (NYSFAAA) Region 8 Service Award at their annual conference banquet on Oct. 20 in Buffalo.

Clarkson's SPEED team helps keep 16-foot star lit high up on Potsdam church

POTSDAM -- The First Presbyterian Church in Potsdam is continuing a 25-year Christmas tradition thanks to some help from a Clarkson University Student Projects for Engineering Experience & Design (SPEED) team.
The church hoists a 16-foot-wide lighted Christmas star high onto the peak of its 150-foot-high steeple each November. The star can be seen from all around the village, shining down during the yuletide season.

The NNYBII NY State Federated Club held its 2010 Season banquet in Potsdam. The top six anglers from the club's 2010 season will represent the Northern New York Bassmasters Club at the 2011 NYS Bass Chapter Federation Nation Team Club Championship. Men's Golden Knights ice hockey team travels out west to battle Air Force and Lake Superior in Mile-High City

Saints shut down Catamounts, 3-0 in women's ice hockey

The St. Lawrence University women's hockey team shut out the University of Vermont on Tuesday night in Burlington, VT by the score of 3-0 in Gutterson Fieldhouse. Graduate student Maxie Weisz turned in 11 saves in net, while first-year student Bailey Habscheid added a pair of assists.
The victory moves St. Lawrence to 7-6-2 on the season, while the Catamounts fall to 1-6-7.

Bears hang on for non-conference win in men's ice hockey

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Junior Matt Rhymer (Kingston, Ontario) scored the game-winning goal with 6:47 remaining in the third period to give the SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey team a 6-5 victory over Skidmore Tuesday in a wild non-conference affair at Maxcy Hall Ice Arena.

No. 7 in women's ice hockey, Middlebury edges Potsdam, 3-1

Middlebury, Vt.—Seventh-ranked Middlebury College (3-0) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey team 3-1 in a non-conference road battle Tuesday night. Sophomore forward Katie Komsa (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario/Sault Ste. Marie AA Midget) scored the lone goal for the Bears, and sophomore goaltender Jen Conophy was sharp in goal for Potsdam with 36 saves.
Conophy kept the Panthers off the board for much of first period with 14 saves, but Middlebury took advantage of their first power play late. Sara Ugalde scored off a rebound at the 17:27 mark to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead.

Knights continue dominance of SUNY Canton in women's basketball with 65-45 Victory

Potsdam, NY - Juniors Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) and Chrissy Scanlon (Queensbury, NY) produced 15 and 14 points, respectively, as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team claimed a 65-45 victory over SUNY Canton Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.
The Golden Knights evened their record at 2-2 on the young season, while SUNY Canton dropped to 1-5 overall. Clarkson will take on Potsdam State next Tuesday.
