MASSENA -- Kathleen Kelly-Ori of Massena has been named press officer for the International Carp Fishing Association – USA.
The American counterpart to the London-based International Carp Fishing Association was created this month as ICFA-USA to administer catch-and-release records for the common carp in the 48 contiguous United States.

Roos women knock off Clippers 77-71 in overtime
(Machias, Maine)- The SUNY Canton women’s basketball team scored 18 points in overtime as they beat the University of Maine at Machias 77-71 Friday afternoon for their second straight Sunrise Conference win.
The Roos improved to 2-1 in the conference and 4-8 overall.
The scored was deadlocked at 31-31 after the first half and 59-59 at the end of regulation before the Roos caught fire in the extra session despite the cold and snowy conditions outside that shut down most of Machias on Friday.
Miller sparks Saints in 72-66 victory over Union
St. Lawrence University sophomore guard Kyle Miller scored a career-high 20 points, including 6-for-10 from behind the arc, as the Saints men's basketball team upended Union College by the score of 72-66 at the Burkman Gymnasium on Friday night.
The Saints, now winners of two straight Liberty League games, move to 6-7 (2-1) on the season. Meanwhile, Union, which held a single one point lead for a mere 20 seconds on Friday, falls to 8-7 (0-4).
Legg, Edgerton lead SLU women past Union, 67-54
The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team raced out to a 29-8 lead midway through the first half and never looked back, as the Saints defeated Union College, 67-54, in the Burkman Gymnasium on Friday evening.
Valentin has another big game in the Roos 86-80 loss to Machias
(Machias, Maine)- Despite a tremendous game from Tony Valentin (Perth Amboy, N.J.) the SUNY Canton men’s basketball team dropped a close 86-80 decision to the University of Maine at Machias Friday night in Maine.
Valentin torched the Clippers for 38 points as he shot a blistering 16-for-22 from the field. He hit all four of his free throw attempts and also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists.
The Roos out rebounded Machias by 16 (37-21) and shot a season-high 54 percent from the field.
Bears edged by Bengals in men's basketball
POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men’s basketball team put in a thorough effort Friday but was outlasted 83-81 against Buffalo State in a State University of New York Athletic Conference showdown at Maxcy Hall’s Welsh Gymnasium.
The Bears shot 50.9 percent from the field, over five percentage points better than the Bengals, and made 19-of-24 from the free throw line, but committed 21 turnovers, including 12 in the opening half.
Clarkson drops dual swim meet at Potsdam
Potsdam, NY - Junior Mike Rowe (Glenville, NY) won a pair of individual events to highlight the Clarkson University Swimming team's day in a dual meet against crosstown rival Potsdam State, as the Bears defeated the men 126-111 and the women 106-101 Friday afternoon at Maxcy Hall.
Merrow makes 26 saves as Roos fall to Buffalo 3-1
(Canton, N.Y.)- The last time SUNY Canton and the University of Buffalo met all the scoring was done in the final period and it was mostly true again on Friday as the Bulls scored three third-period goals in a 3-1 win over the Roos at the Canton Pavilion.
SUNY Canton had beaten the Bulls 3-0 to capture the Blizzard in Buffalo tournament in December with three goals in the final stanza. They led 1-0 through two periods on Friday and outshot the Bulls 31-29.
