Drewry, Vandenbeemt Doubles champions at Mary Hosking Tournament

Senior Hillary Drewry and first-year student Elkie Vandenbeemt teamed up in A flight doubles competition to win the Mary Hosking Tennis Tournament hosted by William Smith College. The duo battled through four straight matches before they were crowned champions on Sunday evening in Geneva, NY.

MASSENA – The St. Lawrence County AARP Chapter 2831 will hold a luncheon and meeting for chapter members and their guests on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the Massena Knights of Columbus Hall at noon.
Reservations are needed by Sept. 13.

Toddler storytime begins today at Canton Free Library, other sessions start Oct. 17, Nov. 14

CANTON – Registration has begun for the fall and winter sessions of Toddler Storytime, a program at the Canton Free Library for children 18-35 months of age accompanied by a caregiver.
The start dates for the three possible sessions are Sept. 12, Oct. 17 and Nov. 14, and each runs for four consecutive weeks.
Programs involve books, songs, finger plays, felt board stories and art activities, and take place on Monday mornings from 10:30-11 a.m.
The program is free, but space is limited. Call 386-3712 ext. 4 to register.

Caligiore, DiGiovanni pace Saints to another Invitational Title

Junior Aimee Caligiore finished second as an individual and first year Julia DiGiovanni posted a top-ten finish in her first collegiate tournament as St. Lawrence University's women's golf team overtook Middlebury College on day two of the 2011 St. Lawrence University Invitational to win the team title for the fourth straight year.

Bouthot leads Saint men in 15-team SLU Invitational

St. John Fisher College shot back-to-back scores of 293 to take a three-stroke win over Waterloo of Canada in the annual St. Lawrence University Collegiate Invitational on the St. Lawrence golf course Sunday afternoon.
The host Saints finished sixth with a 619 total while a SLU Brown team finished ninth in the 15-team 79-player event. Clarkson finished 11th and SUNY Potsdam was
13th.

CANTON, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam golf team finished in 13th place at the two-day St. Lawrence Invitational. The Bears ended the competition with a score of 655 for the tournament, which was won by St. John Fisher College.

Hundreds create human chain around downtown block in Potsdam in tribute to firefighters, EMTs, police who died in 9/11

Hundreds of community members, police, firefighters, rescue squad personnel and Elks Club members turned out this morning for form a human chain around a full block downtown.
The event was a tribute to honor police and fire departments, EMS personnel, and rescue squads and who lost their lives on that date 10 years ago during the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

This photo was taken near the old stone wall by Joan Tyo Lalonde's driveway at 149 Curtis Road, Potsdam, Stockholm Township. She thinks it is called amanita muscaria. If so, she says, it is poisonous. "We seem to have a bumper crop of strange mushrooms this year," she noted.
