SUNY Potsdam to offer memorial service at 'New York Remembers' exhibit Sept. 11

POTSDAM – SUNY Potsdam will offer a memorial service beginning at 8:30 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 11, at the "New York Remembers" exhibit in Flagg Hall.
This event will be free and open to the public.
The exhibit recognizes the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and runs through the end of September.
An aircraft fragment from one of the planes that hit the World Trade Center in New York City is on display along with informational panels at the Potsdam campus.

Morristown church plans baptism at town dock on Sept. 11

MORRISTOWN – The First Congregational Church of Morristown will hold a baptism at Oak Point town dock at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11.
There will be a pot luck dinner following the baptism. Bring a dish to pass and your own drink.
Music will be provided by the Sweet Adelines, Pastor David Sheppard and the church praise team.
Donations will be taken to put toward repairs to the church building.
All are welcome.

Catholic Charities largest recipient of United Way funding in St. Lawrence County

Catholic Charities received the largest grant in St. Lawrence County this year from the United Way of Northern New York.
Catholic Charities is using $23,000 from the United Way for the “Bridging the Gap” program, which offers financial assistance with rent and utilities for those unable to meet those obligations.
According to a breakdown provided in a recent letter to businesses from United Way, other agencies in St. Lawrence County receiving United Way funding this year include:
• St. Lawrence Valley Renewal House for Victims of Family Violence, $15,000

Free hot dogs, drinks, balloons at Good Times Party Store grand opening in Potsdam Sept. 10

POTSDAM – The grand opening of Good Times Party Store, 57 Market St., will take place Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Free balloons, rubber wrist bands and eco-friendly shopping bags will be available and free hot dogs and drinks will be served.
Drawings will take place for a $50 gift certificate. There will be two other drawings for $30 in merchandise.
The official Potsdam Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting will take place at 11 a.m.

Hammond Fair work day Sept 10

HAMMOND – Hammond Fair work day will be Saturday, Sept. 10, beginning at 10 a.m. at the fair grounds on Lake Street.
Cleaning supplies, clippers, brooms, and rakes will be needed by the workers.

Dr. Richard D. Ward Jr., OD, 79, Ogdensburg

Funeral services for Dr. Richard D. Ward Jr. OD, age 79 of Franklin Street in Ogdensburg will be held on Monday (September 12, 2011) at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Dr. Ward died Thursday morning at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Emma D. Rose, 98, formerly of Massena

Emma D. Rose, 98, of Farmer Street, Canton, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at her home. She was the wife of the late Wesley W. Rose (4/11/70).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17 at 11:15 am at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton with Rev. Kathleen Buckley officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am, prior to the service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Canton.
Born Feb. 8, 1913 in Massena, NY daughter of Paul and Elsie (McClymont) Drew, she graduated Massena Schools in 1930.
