Annual turkey dinner at Madrid United Church Saturday

MADRID – The United Church of Madrid will hold its annual turkey dinner on Saturday, Nov. 5 in the Madrid-Waddington High School cafeteria.
Serving begins at 4:30 p.m. Price will be $8 for adults, $4 for ages 5 to 12 and free for under age five.
Take-outs will be available. For deliveries, call 322-5746 starting at 4 p.m. on Nov. 5.

South Colton Fish & Game Club rifle range closed after shots fired through portable toilet

SOUTH COLTON – Holes shot through a portable toilet near the Racquettte Valley Fish and Game Club's shooting range are prompting the club to close its rifle range as of Thursday.
“It is very possible that somebody could have been in that building when it was shot at,” said club treasurer Mary Long. “It could have been a town employee, a hunter, or anyone that was using the facility. That person could have been killed or seriously hurt.”
The incident has been reported to police authorities, Long said.

Volunteers sought for trail work day at Higley Flow State Park Nov. 5

COLTON – A trail work day at Higley Flow State Park is set for Saturday, Nov. 5 beginning at 9 a.m.
The Friends of Higley Flow State Park are asking volunteers for the trail work to sign in at the park office. There are no tolls to enter the park during this time of year.
Members of the St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University cross-country ski teams will be there to help. Everyone is welcome to help prepare the trails for winter, and enjoy a pleasant walk through the woods.

Massena Home Base Head Start recently took a field trip to Cape Air at Massena's Richards Field Airport. The children were able to explore the metal detectors and the inside of the plane that travels daily from Massena to Albany.

Knights men's soccer players Blackwell and Duff named Liberty League All-Stars

Freshman Trevor Blackwell (Pittsford, NY) and sophomore Jacob Duff (Lebanon, CT) of the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team were each named to the Liberty League All-Star team on Thursday.
Blackwell, a freshman back, was one of the top young players in the conference and picked as a Liberty League Honorable Mention all-star. He scored a pair of goals
on just four shots on goal with both figuring as game-winning goals. He started all 17 games for the Knights as a freshman.

Thanks to standout performances in 2011, seniors Alix Petitti (Amsterdam, NY) and Andrea Walsh (Underhill Center, VT) of the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team were named to the Liberty League All-Star team on Thursday, helping first-year head coach Sarah Raymond and assistant coach Rachael Sushner gain Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
