Wilson Hill and Upper & Lower Lakes areas open to public for two weeks starting Saturday
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced a special opportunity for public use of three Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) in Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties from Saturday, Aug. 14 through Sunday, Aug. 29.
During the 16-day period, Upper and Lower Lakes WMA in St Lawrence County, including wetland-restricted areas, will be open to visitors.
Wilson Hill WMA, also in St. Lawrence County, will be open to visitors except for areas near the New York Power Authority-sponsored construction projects, as construction activity continues.
Ryan's Wish golf tourney Saturday in Gouverneur
GOUVERNEUR – Golfers are preparing for the 2010 Ryan’s Wish Foundation Golf Tournament to be held on Saturday, Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. at Emerald Greens Golf Course in Gouverneur.
The golf tournament is in memory of Ryan Saidel who lost his battle with cancer on Feb. 7, 2004. Ryan defined the word courage as he lived his life inspiring others to make the best of each and every day.
Adirondack Museum hosting antique show and sale Aug. 14 - 15
BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE – An antiques show and sale will be held at the Adirondack Museum, Blue Mountain Lake, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 14 and 15.
Forty-five of the country's top antique dealers will offer the finest examples of premium vintage furnishings and collectables.

Parishville town-wide garage sales set for Aug. 14 - 15
PARISHVILLE – The Parishville town-wide garage sales will be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 14-15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Fried bread dough will be served at the Methodist Church, the town museum will be open for a sale and tours, hot dogs and hamburgers will be sold at the AMVETs, Sun Feather Soap Co. will have bags of soap on sale, and a chicken barbecue will be held at the Timber Tavern, along with space available for personal sale items.

122nd Assembly candidate Blankenbush believes change in Albany key to control spending, taxation
Republican Ken Blankenbush, chair of the Jefferson County Board of Legislators and candidate to replace the retiring Dede Scozzafava as the 122nd Assembly District representative, is hearing frustration over spending from voters.
In a statement this week, Blankenbush said change in Albany is necessary in order to get spending and taxation under control.
In the contest, Blankenbush, who will have the Republican and Conservative Party lines on the ballot in November, will face Democrat Brian McGrath of Martinsburg.

Funeral services for 72-year old Mr. Francis F. "Frank" Cyrus of West Stockholm, will be held Saturday, August 14th, 2010 at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. James Barnes, Pastor of the Potsdam United Methodist Church and the coordinating Pastor of the West Stockholm Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the West Stockholm Cemetery with military honors.
