Lady Roos tripped up by Keuka at home

(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women’s basketball team dropped a 79-39 decision to Keuka College Tuesday night at home.
The Roos (0-2) had another solid night rebounding as they held a 41-29 edge on the Storm (1-0). Freshman Cortney Whalen (Hammond, N.Y.) scored a team-high 10 points and grabbed four rebounds for the Roos.

Strong second half carries Roos past Keuka

(Canton, N.Y.)- Timothy Taylor (New York, N.Y.) led four players in double figures with 18 points and the SUNY Canton men’s basketball team used a dominant start to the second half to pull away to a convincing 67-49 win over Keuka College at home Tuesday night.
The Roos moved to 2-0 overall while the Storm dropped to 0-1.

Temgoua, Saints knock off #18 Oswego, 66-62, in season-opener

Senior co-captain Ralph Temgoua recorded 25 points to lead the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to a season-opening upset of #18 Oswego State in the Burkman Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
The Saints are 1-0 at the start of the season, while Oswego falls to 0-1.

Knights open with win at Paul Smith's College

Paul Smiths, NY - Freshman John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) came within a pair of missed lay ups from recording a triple-double in his first collegiate game as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team came away with an 86-69 victory over Paul Smith's College Tuesday evening to open the 2011-12 campaign.
The Golden Knights, now 1-0, will play in the Hilbert College Tournament this weekend just outside of Buffalo. Paul Smith's, well into their season already, dropped to 3-4 overall.

Bears women's basketball team drop season opener

UTICA, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam women’s basketball team fell in their season opener to Utica 60-49. Senior Katie McGee recorded a double-double with 22 rebounds and 10 points and knocked down three of four from the three point line to lead the Pioneers.

Defense leads Potsdam Bears mens basketball team to opening night victory

UTICA, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam men’s basketball team used a strong defensive performance to knock off Utica College in their season opener. The Bears (1-0) held Utica to 37 percent shooting and forced 17 turnovers as they came away with a 72-67 win. Junior Curtis Pierce turned in a solid all-around performance with 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Clarkson hosts Harvard and Dartmouth in final homes games of 2011

Playing its final games at Cheel Arena during the 2011 portion of the schedule this weekend, the Clarkson University Hockey team will look to use its home-ice advantage to get back on the winning track. Guided by first-year head coach Casey Jones and assistant coaches Phil Roy ’00 and Andy Jones, the Golden Knights host Harvard on Friday and Dartmouth on Saturday. Both games begin at 7:00 p.m.

Massena motor-scooter operator airlifted to Syracuse hospital with serious injuries following crash

MASSENA – A motor-scooter operator has been airlifted to a Syracuse hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle on South Main Street.
The crash occurred at 5:49 p.m., according to village Police Chief Timmy J. Currier.
Police said Wanda J. Harvey, 45, of Amherst Road, was operating a motorized scooter and attempted to cross South Main Street in an easterly direction toward the intersection of Leach Street.
She crossed into the pathway of a motor vehicle operated by Amanda J. Bouyea, 23, of Trippany Road, police said.

Mr. Brian O’Shea Sr., age 64, of Parishville, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at his residence while under the care of his family and Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley. Arrangements are with the Garner Funeral Service in Potsdam. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Thursday, November 17th from 2-4 p.m. Graveside services for Mr. O’Shea will be held on Friday, at 1 p.m. at the Oakwood Cemetery in Syracuse, with Pastor Andy Reese celebrant.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Canton with Pastor Donna Doig officiating.
Calling hours will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Canton.
