Gulfstream Airlines, hoping to serve Massena and Ogdensburg, wins bids for 4 cities in NY, Penn.
Gulfstream International Airlines, a Florida-based carrier which is seeking to get the contract for North Country air service now provided by Cape Air, says it has been awarded renewals of contracts for service to cities in western Pennsylvania and western New York.
The airline has also submitted a bid under the federal Essential Air Service program to provide service in the North Country communities of Massena, Ogdensburg and Watertown. Service to those communities is now provided by Cape Air, which has also submitted a bid to have their contract renewed.
Congregation Beth El offering Hebrew School classes in Potsdam starting Sept. 12
POTSDAM – Congregation Beth El is offering Hebrew school classes Sundays from 10 a.m. to noon, beginning Sept. 12, for those looking for a place for their children to be immersed in Jewish culture.
Children will have the opportunity to meet new friends and have fun-filled learning experiences while they learn to read and speak Hebrew.
They will learn about Jewish history as they study the different holidays that we will celebrate together throughout the year.
Nature walk planned at Indian Creek Nature Center Sept.12
RENSSELAER FALLS – Indian Creek Nature Center will host a nature walk Sunday, Sept. 12 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Fall Flowering Plants will be a walk through wetland and woodland habitats in search of asters, goldenrods, and other fall flowering plants.

St. Lawrence County Memory Walk to benefit Alzheimer's Association Sept. 12 in Canton
CANTON – The St. Lawrence County Memory Walk will be held Sunday, Sept. 12 with registration at noon and the walk beginning at 1 p.m. at the Patridge Run Golf and Country Club.
The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk is an empowering event that gives participants an opportunity to be champions by taking action and raising funds to fight Alzheimer's.
Walk organizers expect 200 people to take part in the event, which provides support services to the 2,600+ residents in St. Lawrence County living with Alzheimer's, and critically needed research.

Mr. Donald G. Spiridakis Sr., 73, Winthrop, passed away Thursday September 9, 2010 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital with the love and support of his family.
Donald was born on October 8, 1936 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Nicholas and Frances (Gloncewicz) Spiridakis. He graduated from Ferris High School in Jersey City.
On May 21, 1960, he married Veronica “Ronnie” Rehonic, at St. Michaels Church in Jersey City, with whom he shared 50 years filled with much love and devotion.
Funeral services for Linda Mae LeBire, 62, of Massena will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at noon at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Massena. Friends and family may be received on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St. Massena. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Linda passed away on September 9, 2010 at her home under the loving care of her family and hospice.
Funeral services for 94-year-old Elizabeth P. Parow, 3 East High St., Norfolk, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk with Rev. Harold Wheat, pastor of the Norfolk United Methodist Church, presiding. Burial will be held in Bixby cemetery in Norfolk. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk. Mrs. Parow passed away Thursday evening at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Canadian Border Services installing license plate readers at Cornwall port of entry
CORNWALL, Ont. -- The Canada Border Services Agency will be installing license plate readers at their interim port of entry in the City of Cornwall next week.
Beginning Sept. 14 the readers will be in each of the three primary inspection lanes. During installation, two lanes of traffic will remain open for traffic as needed.
Snowmobiles race on water at Norwood Lake Regatta Sept. 11 & 12
NORWOOD – Snowmobiles that travel at very high speeds across water and require special skills to operate return to Norwood Saturday, Sept. 11 and Sunday, Sept. 12 when Eastern Watercross Association racers compete at Norwood Beach at the Norwood Lake Regatta, Lakeshore Road.
Races begin at 11 a.m. with gates open at 9 a.m. There is plenty of free parking, and attendants will ensure parking that allows easy entry and exit.
Price of admission is $5 for the pro and semi-pro oval racing in the 600 and 800 class.
