Norwich defeats St. Lawrence, 25-14
CANTON -- Norwich University's Chris Denton made a game-high seven catches for 169 yards and three touchdowns, pacing the Cadets to a 25-14 victory over the St. Lawrence University football team at Leckonby Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Cadets (2-0) have now won 10 consecutive games dating back to September 19, 2009, while the Saints (0-2) lost to Norwich for only the second time in six years.
Bernard R. Thompson, 69, passed away Sept. 9, 2010 at Massena Memorial Hospital with the love and support of his family.
Richard A. Byrns, age 77, formerly of Gouverneur, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA.
Arrangements with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur are incomplete.
Gary L. Paquette, age 66, of Dekalb Jct., passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at his home under hospice.
There will be no calling hours. There will be a private memorial service at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made in Gary's memory to a charity of ones choice. Arrangement are entrusted to French Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Water levels to drop at Higley reservoir, Hannawa Falls reservoir beginning Sept. 15, 16
Brookfield Renewable Power will soon lower water levels at the Higley reservoir and the Hannawa Falls reservoir.
The Higley reservoir water level will start falling slowly on Wednesday, Sept. 15 until the water elevation is about three-and-a-half feet below normal by Thursday afternoon, Sept. 16. The reservoir will begin refilling on Sunday, Sept. 19 and continue until it is full by Monday, Sept. 20.
Clarkson to offer popular ‘My Small Business 101’ series again beginning Sept. 20
POTSDAM -- Clarkson University's Entrepreneurship Center will offer the popular My Small Business 101 series in Potsdam this fall starting Sept. 20.
Small-business people in all stages of business are invited to attend four weekly two-hour sessions. Each week, Marc Compeau, director of the Entrepreneurship Center, will focus on a different topic, including Thinking Strategically, Resource Management, Marketing Management and Financial Management.
The course will be held on Monday, Sept. 20, and the next three Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m. in Snell Hall on the Clarkson campus.
Norfolk K of C brunch tomorrow
NORFOLK – The Norfolk Knights of Columbus will sponsor a brunch at the Visitation Parish Center on Sunday, Sept. 12, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
The cost is $6 for adults, $4 under 12 years, free for under 5, $15 for the whole family.
The menu includes: pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, home fries, ham, sausage, toast, muffins, juice, coffee. Take-outs available.
Heuvelton motorcylist injured following crash in Oswegatchie
OSWEGATCHIE – A Heuvelton motorcycle operator was injured Friday night after he lost control of his 2004 Kawasaki and landed in a ditch, according to state police.
Police said Joshua A. LaMere, 33, was traveling north on State Highway 68 and lost control due to unsafe speed. He left the roadway off the east shoulder and his motorcycle came to rest on its left side in a ditch, police said.
LaMere was transported to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, by the Lisbon Rescue Squad for abrasions to both knees, police said.
Gouverneur woman arrested for animal cruelty after cows repeatedly damage nearby property
GOUVERNEUR – A Gouverneur woman has again been cited for failing to keep cows from wandering the neighborhood.
State police on Friday arrested Jaclyn D. Tarus, 41, for Reckless Endangerment of Property and Animal Cruelty.
Tarus did not maintain adequate fencing for her cows even after several requests from neighbors and police, troopers said. The cows damaged the neighbors property several times and Tarus also did not maintain adequate food or water for the cows, police said.
