St. Lawrence volleyball team goes 4-0 at Victory Promotions Tournament
POTSDAM -- The St. Lawrence University volleyball team went 4-0 at the Victory Promotions Tournament as it closed out the weekend defeating Oswego State 3-1 (25-22, 25-16, 23-25, 25-17) and RIT 3-2 (17-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11).
"I am extremely proud of the aggressiveness and confidence that we showed this weekend, especially late in sets 4 and 5 (against RIT) after we failed to do that in set 3," Coach Roiger said. "I thought we played very smart and had a very balanced attack. And in the end it all paid off."
SLU Saints down Simmons College 5-0 at Wellesley Invitational women's soccer tourney
Freshman forward Erika Gobielle scored the first of two goals just two minutes apart to start the second half as St. Lawrence University's women's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 win over Simmons College in the opening game of the Wellesley Invitational on Saturday.
The Saints led 1-0 early in the game when sophomore Stephanie Sayward set up junior forward Marcelle Justison's first goal of the season at 14:11, but couldn't add to the lead despite a 13-0 edge in shots in the first half.
Geneseo men's soccer team edges SLU, 1-0
GENESEO -- The St. Lawrence men's soccer team continued a weekend scoring drought as despite outshooting their opponent and having a big edge in corner kicks for the second straight game, the Saints lost 1-0 at Geneseo on Saturday.
The Blue Knights scored the only goal of the game 4:38 into play as Colin Begy sent a through ball into the box and Ian Mart scored on a shot from the left side as Geneseo improves to 2-2-1 on the season.
Golden Eagles rally past Bears men's soccer team, 3-2
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The SUNY Potsdam men’s soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead, but fell to St. Joseph’s (N.Y.) College 3-2 in the first round of CIAO Classic.
Bears senior midfielder Tim Ciampa (Castleton, N.Y./Maple Hill) and freshman forward Alex Minsker (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) each scored to give Potsdam the early lead.
The Bears defense held off strong pressure in the first half, allowing the offense to grab the early advantage.
Clarkson Golden Knights cruise to 5-0 win over Hilbert College
HAMBURG -- Senior Ariana Czech (Big Bear City, CA) scored twice in the first 15 minutes as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team coasted to a 5-0 victory over Hilbert College Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights improved their record to 3-2 overall with their second straight victory. Clarkson will host Plattsburgh State at 7:00 pm on Wednesday night ath Hantz Turf Field.
It took little time for Clarkson to gain control against the Hawks on Saturday, as Czech scored the Knights' first goal of the contest at 5:13.
The Northern New York Community Foundation recently presented its first installment of a $45,000 grant to improve the transmitting capabilities of North Country Public Radio in the Gouverneur area. Clarkson, University of Rochester men's soccer teams play to 0-0 double overtime tie
ROCHESTER - It has become almost an annual refrain in recent years, but it needs to be repeated as newsworthy: the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team and the University of Rochester played to a double-overtime scoreless tie, 0-0.
It is the third straight year that neither team could capture a score.
The Golden Knights moved to 2-1-1 overall, extending their unbeaten streak to three straight games since a season-opening loss to Houghton College. The tie was Rochester's first blemish of the season (4-0-1).
Clarkson Knights claim North Country Invitational Volleyball Tournament title for third straight year
POTSDAM -- For the third straight season, the Clarkson University Volleyball team claimed the North Country Invitational title at Potsdam State, finishing a perfect 4-0 in pool play with convincing victories over Morrisville State and Hamilton on Saturday afternoon at Maxcy Hall.
The Golden Knights moved to a perfect 8-0 on the season, and the Knights will take to the road on Tuesday to face Plattsburgh State.
SUNY Potsdam women’s soccer team downs Sage, 1-0
POTSDAM -- The SUNY Potsdam women’s soccer team captured its fourth win of the season, shutting down the Sage College Gators 1-0.
Bears junior midfielder Dedra Palmer (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) scored the lone goal of the contest at the 28:01 mark.
Potsdam jumped on the Gators from the start of the contest and kept Sage on the defensive for much of the first half. The early pressure resulted in several corner kicks for the Bears, but the Gator defenders limited the strong scoring opportunities.
SUNY Potsdam Bears split again at home tournament
POTSDAM – For the second consecutive day, the SUNY Potsdam volleyball team split two matches at the Victory Promotions Invitational at Welsh Gymnasium.
After winning their opener against Hamilton 25-21, 25-23, 25-13, the Bears (3-5) started their second match well but lost to Buffalo St. 25-27, 27-25, 25-20, 25-14.
Following play, Potsdam senior Erica Romaniello (Selden, N.Y.) was named to the All-Tournament team, the second all-tournament honor for the Bears’ libero this season.
