First Science Café of the season set for Wednesday in Potsdam

POTSDAM — The season’s first Clarkson University Science Café will be “What do Soap Bubbles have to do with the ‘Mona Lisa?’” On Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 7:15 p.m. at the Potsdam Civic Center Community Room, 2 Park St.
We all know the frustrating feeling when someone photobombs our perfect vacation photo,
or of finding some graininess and “noise” in our photos, especially those taken at night.
In this Science Café, Professor Prashant Athavale (Department of Mathematics, CU)
will discuss how mathematicians can help us remove unwanted elements and clean up the

Anti-bullying speaker to visit Ogdensburg school

OGDENSBURG – A renowned speaker and advocate for bullying and suicide prevention will deliver a presentation on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. at Ogdensburg Free Academy.

Hall of fame induction ceremony planned in Massena

MASSENA - Massena Central School’s 33rd annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony, sponsored by Massena Savings & Loan, will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22 in the Massena High School Cafeteria.
This year’s Hall of Fame Team Inductees will be the: 2004 and 2006 Volleyball Teams

POTSDAM — Fourteen more SUNY Potsdam programs, in addition to four announced this summer, are slated to be discontinued as college officials work to close a $9 million budget deficit.
The plan will play out over the next three to five years to allow students currently enrolled to graduate with a SUNY Potsdam degree, according to President Suzanne Smith.

Potsdam police cite nearly 20 motorists during school zone speeding crackdown

POTSDAM — Potsdam police said they charged several motorists with driving infractions on Monday. Those charged included:
• Riley O’Neil, 23, Madrid, was cited for speed in school zone on Lawrence Avenue at 8:34 a.m. after allegedly driving 35 mph in a 20 mph zone.
• Rachel Garrow, 36, Akwesasne, was cited for speed in school zone on Lawrence Avenue at 8:52 a.m. after allegedly driving 38 mph in a 30 mph zone.
• Kathryn Delguidice, 68, Potsdam, was cited for speed in school zone on Lawrence Avenue at 9:11 a.m. after allegedly driving 37 mph in a 20 mph zone.
