NYSARC bus to pick up where St. Lawrence County left off

Inexpensive public transportation throughout St. Lawrence County is slated to shift hands from county to St. Lawrence NYSARC control in March, according to Jerry M. Filiatrault, director of operations.
Potsdam Kiwanis donate more than $500 to Children’s Miracle Network
POTSDAM -- The Kiwanis Club of Potsdam held their annual golf tournament last year and raised more than $500 for their annual donation to Children’s Miracle Network (CMN).

Canton Goldenaires sending out quartets to deliver singing valentines Feb. 14
CANTON – The Canton Goldenaires will once again be sending out quartets to deliver a singing valentine for a loved one or sweetheart Tuesday, Feb. 14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The cost (donation) is $35. You name the place and the person and a quartet will deliver a love song (along with a rose and some chocolates).
Proceeds will benefit St. Lawrence County high school seniors with musical talent.
Applications have been sent or hand delivered to schools.
Nature center in Massena has events throughout February for young people
MASSENA – Several events for young people are planned by the Friends of the Nature Center during the school break the week of Feb. 20.
Tuesday through Friday a new nature topic will be presented for students aged 5 to 12. Programs will be fun, hands-on and free of charge.
Programs will run from 10 a.m. to noon New York Power Authority’s Visitor’s Center at Hawkins Point. Class size is limited to 15.
• Tuesday, Feb. 21: Birds! - Learn all about winter birds and bird feeding.
• Wednesday, Feb. 22: Bugs! - Learn all about bugs and how they survive.
SLU's Visconti shines in Slalom at Dartmouth Carnival
St. Lawrence University first-year alpine skier Allison Visconti recorded a collegiate-best finish on Saturday in the slalom at the 2012 Dartmouth Carnival in Lyme, NH, leading the Saints' women's team to sixth place overall.
Visconti picked up her first career top-15, taking 13th place overall with a time of 1:42.32. The Ridgefield, CT native moved up three spots thanks to a second run time of 49.37 to earn 27.0 points for the Scarlet and Brown.
Saints Nordic team members Carpenter, Meng have career best finishes at Dartmouth
St. Lawrence University senior Nordic skier Caroline Carpenter and first-year student Austin Meng each recorded new career-best finishes on Saturday in the classic races at the 2012 Dartmouth Carnival held at Trapp Family Lodge.
Carpenter posted a seventh place finish in the women's 15k classic, her first collegiate top-10, to pace the Scarlet and Brown. The Shelburne, VT native's time of 48:47.6 helps towards solidifying an individual bid to the 2012 NCAA Championships.
Taylor SUNYAC Champ in 200 Breaststroke, named Outstanding Male Swimmer
BUFFALO, N.Y.—On the final day at the SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships SUNY Potsdam junior swimmer Alexander Taylor won another SUNYAC Championship and set his fourth record in three days of competition. Taylor was named the Male Swimmer of the Meet. Both the Bears men finished seventh and the women placed finished ninth. Geneseo captured both the men’s and women’s championships.
Roo basketball vs the College of St. Joseph cancelled
(Canton, N.Y.) - Due to the on-campus fire on Friday at SUNY Canton the home men's and women's basketball doubleheader against the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) on Sunday, Feb. 12 has been cancelled.
Classes were cancelled at the college this week and students, including members of each basketball team, were sent home. There has been no decision whether the games will be re-scheduled.
The home men's ice hockey game on Saturday, Feb. 11 vs RIT will still be played starting at 7:30 p.m.
Lady Saints hold off Brewers on Senior Day, 70-62
The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team extended its win-streak to 16 games with a 70-62 victory over Liberty League opponent Vassar College on Saturday afternoon.
St. Lawrence, led by two in double-figures, improved to 19-4 and remains undefeated in the Liberty League with a mark of 15-0. Sophomore Kelly Legg had a double-double, recording 20 points and 11 rebounds, while adding four blocks and two assists. Senior co-captain Katie Edgerton had 18 points, including 6-of-6 from the free throw line, and added four rebounds.
Brewers edge Saints, 58-57, on Senior Day
The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team suffered a 58-57 loss to Vassar College in Liberty League action on Saturday evening.
St. Lawrence, which battled back from an early 11-3 deficit to take a 33-26 lead at the intermission, fell to 14-9 and 10-5 in the Liberty League. Sophomore Al Jones led the team with 14 points, including 8-of-8 from the free throw line. First-year student Brady Condlin had 10 points and six rebounds, while senior Terry Parham had 10 points and three assists. Seniors Ralph Temgoua and Garrett Sharlow combined for 18 points and 12 rebounds.
