Funeral service for Dennis P. Carriere, 68, of Highland Rd, Massena will held Friday 10:00 a.m. (July 30, 2010) at St Joseph's Church with Rev. Jack Downs presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
Friends and family may be received Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. Mr. Carriere died peacefully in his sleep at home.
State Education Department releases test results; links offered for St. Lawrence County schools
The New York State Education Department has released test results for the English and math test that third- through eighth-graders took this past school year.
The Education Department raised the bar for English (what they call "English Language Arts") and mathematics proficiency tests for those students for the 2009-10 school year.
Massena Memorial Hospital recognized for being among 'most wired'
MASSENA -- Massena Memorial Hospital has been recognized as one of the nation’s “most wired” according to the results of the 2010 Most Wired Survey in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.
According the survey, hospitals understand the importance of health information technology and the benefits of its widespread adoption, yet they still face significant barriers to implementation.
34 classes to be featured at open horse show Aug. 8 at Gouverneur fair
GOUVERNEUR – This year’s Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair Open Horse Show will be held on Sunday, Aug. 8 beginning at 9 a.m.
Our official judge for the day will be Dave Philips from Penn Yan, N.Y.
4-Legged Photography will be taking photos. The class list has changed and the prize list will be somewhat different from previous years.
There will be some trophy classes, some payback classes and various other prizes.
The class and donor prize list will be posted at the Secretary Booth and various sponsors will be announced throughout the day.
Potsdam’s Coleman getting attention from MLB scouts
POTSDAM -- Clarkson University baseball team member junior Jerry Coleman of Potsdam is catching the eye of baseball scouts this summer.
Coleman ranked among the league leaders this summer in the Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League (ABCCL) with a .353 batting average.
Rivergrass Band plays Sunday in Gouverneur Riverview Park Concert Series
GOUVERNEUR – North Country bluegrass music group Rivergrass Band will perform Sunday, Aug. 1 as part of The Riverview Park Concert Series in Gouverneur this summer.
All concerts begin at 4 p.m. in the park on Route 58 (Natural Dam Road). A small donation to the Riverview Park is suggested to help maintain the facility and keep the program going.

• Aug. 15: Al Beatrus and Friends Band - singing 50’s and 60’s music
Waiting on order to ‘move or remove building’
To the Editor:
For two years I have worked tirelessly to persuade the Town of Potsdam’s Zonng Board of Appeals (ZBA) to rule that my neighbor, Gard Meserve (1070 River Road, Norwood), must comply with the building code in the Town of Potsdam.
Finally, when I showed up at the November 2009 ZBA meeting with my attorney, it was determined in a final ruling that Meserve had to “either move or remove the building.” To date, the building has been neither moved nor removed.
