Saints compete in men's tennis at ITA Regionals
The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team traveled to Saratoga Springs, NY on Friday to compete in the 2010 USTA/ITA Regional Championships hosted by Skidmore College.
Several athletes made it to the second round of play, but no one was able to advance further in the championship.
In doubles action, seniors Will Cook and Ren Gates defeated Matt Asher and Even Creer of RPI 9-7, before falling to Spencer Cheng and Jimmy Sherpa of Skidmore in the second round 8-2.
Caligiore leads Saints to 3rd in women's golf at Martin and Wallace Invitational
Sophomore Aimee Caligiore shot rounds of 78 and 82 and recorded her fourth top ten finish in as many outings to lead St. Lawrence University's women's golf team to a third place finish in the Martin and Wallace Invitational hosted by Cortland.
Caligiore's opening round 78 tied for the third best score in the opening round of the tournament.
O'Connor leads Saints in men's golf at ECAC championships
Junior Ren O'Connor shot rounds of 82 and 80 for a 162 total to lead St. Lawrence University's men's golf team to a fifth place finish in the 2010 ECAC Metro/Upstate Championships held in Rochester on Saturday and Sunday.
The Saints finished with a team total of 659 shooting best four of five scores of 328 and 331, trailing fourth place Elmira by 11 strokes. Host St. John Fisher won the tournament for the seventh straight year with a 631 total on its home course while New York University was second at 645 and the University of Rochester was third at 646.
Potsdam volleyball to “Dig Pink” for cancer awareness

John A. Bradshaw, age 54, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 2nd at Kingston General Hospital in Kingston, Ontario.
John was born on December 7th, 1955 to Margaret Plotner and R. Gerald Bradshaw. He graduated from Holy Family High School in Massena in 1974 and received a Bachelor of Science from Clarkson University in 1982. He was employed as the Equipment Manager for the Clarkson University Athletic Department. John continued to play men’s league hockey with the Pot-Bellies and the Part-timers and was a penalty box time-keeper for Clarkson Men’s Hockey.
Funeral Services for six year old Casiya F. Liebfred of Massena, will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Garner Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Deliar celebrant. Burial will follow the service at the Garfield Cemetery in Potsdam.
Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. Contributions in her memory can be made to the American Cerebral Palsy Association. Casiya passed away on Saturday, October 2nd in the Emergency Room at the Massena Memorial Hospital. She had Cystic Fibrosis and Cerebral Palsy.
Memorial service for Phyllis G. Pierce, 86, will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Canton with Rev. Mike Catanzaro, officiating. Friends will be received at a reception to follow.
Cindy M. King, age 50, of Edwards, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at her home.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, October 6th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Edwards. The funeral mass will be on Thursday, October 7th at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edwards with Fr. Stephen Rocker officiating. There will be no burial.
Cindy was born on October 30, 1959 in Plattsburgh, to Napoleon and Alma (Gumlaw) Ashline. She graduated from Saranac Central School and then went on to receive her BA in Business.
There will be calling hours for Ernest A. “Sonny” Patton, Jr. on Friday, October 8, 2010 from 6 until 8 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Mr. Patton died quietly in his sleep at home on October 2, 2010 with his loving wife by his side. He was 80 years old. A private family committal will be held at a later date at the Riverside Cemetery.
There will be no services for 75 year old Claude B. Thompson, 562 Orebed Road, Colton, who passed away Sunday morning at his home.
Claude is survived by two sons, Edward and Daniel. He was pre-deceseased by his wife, ValJean on June 29, 2010.
