'Organ Composers of Scandinavia' concert at SLU January 28
CANTON -- "Organ Composers of Scandinavia" is the theme when Sondra Goldsmith Proctor performs at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28 in St. Lawrence University's Gunnsion Memorial Chapel.
Parking is available adjacent to the chapel. Those attending are encouraged to bring lunch to eat while enjoying the music.

St. Lawrence County Traffic Safety Program sponsoring script contest
The St. Lawrence County Traffic Safety Program is sponsoring a contest to help spread the message to be a safer driver when sharing the road with pedestrians and bicyclists. They are seeking original scripts for 30-second road safety public service announcements that they will use in their local traffic safety campaigns.
The focus is pedestrian and bicycle safety, since these types of collisions since a high percentage bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorcyclists are injured severely enough to require hospitalization.
Kinney Drugs to hold collection days for unused, expired medicine
Kinney Drugs stores will hold collection days for unused and expired medicines the last Saturdays in January, February and March.
The Gouverneur-based retail chain is encouraging people to drop off unused or expired non-controlled prescription medications so that they can be properly disposed of, to prevent accidental poisonings, substance abuse, and environmental pollution.
Non-controlled prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines, ointments, sprays, inhalers, creams, medication vials and pet medications will be accepted.

(Canton, N.Y.)- Senior forward Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) and senior guard Tony Valentin (Perth Amboy, N.J.) have been honored as the Sunrise Conference Players of the Week in women’s and men’s basketball respectively after reaching career milestones on Jan. 16.
Funeral services for Charles M. Curry Sr., 89, of Madrid will be Saturday (January 22, 2011) at 4:00 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, 20 Church St. Madrid, with Rev. Walter Smith. Friends and family may call on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Interment will be in Madrid Cemetery with full Military Honors in the spring.
Dorothy Dodds, age 83, of Edwards, passed away on January 19, 2011 at her home under the loving care of her five children and St. Lawrence Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
Dorothy was born on May 24, 1927 to the late Edward and Dorothy Ann (Matthews) Mundy. She graduated from Potsdam High School and the University Of Rochester School Of Nursing.
A celebration of life for Beverly H. Compo, 76, of Louisville, will be held Saturday (Jan. 22, 2011) at 11:00 a.m. at Louisville Community Church with Rev. Helen Beck and Thomas Nichols presiding. Interment will be in Louisville Community Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Beverly passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Jan. 19, 2011.
Clarkson vs. Brown hockey tickets, chance at winning new Jeep through Potsdam Chamber
POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Chamber still has a few tickets left to the Feb. 11 Clarkson University Golden Knights’ hockey game against the Brown University Bears, thanks to the generous support of Clarkson. Tickets are $13 each.
Those who hold tickets purchased from the chamber will be entered into a drawing for a Valentine-themed gift package with items donated by St. Lawrence Chocolates, Community Performance Series, Canton-Potsdam Hospital gift shop, ’Em Bears, Julian’s Restaurant, Northern Interiors, Walmart, The Copy Shop, and Willow Tree Florist.
County public health to offer flu, pneumonia shots at Colton Winterfest Jan. 29
COLTON -- The St. Lawrence County Public Health Department will give flu and pneumonia shots at the Colton Winterfest starting at 9 a.m. Jan. 29.
Each shot will cost $15. Medicare will cover the cost if people present their cards.
