CANTON – Work continues to replace a high-speed Electric Vehicle charging station on Hodskin Street.
In April, the village was awarded a $50,061 state grant to purchase a new fast charger pedestal.
“We’re in the midst of getting an EV charger proposal,” stated Village Trustee Klaus Proemm. “We will be carefully considering the proposals coming to us, to get the best fast charger with the best warranty at the least cost to the village.”
A point of concern has centered around Chargepoint.
“The problem with Chargepoint has been reliability as in our current non-working charger, and less than adequate accessibility,” Proemm explained.
To date, the top prospects are a Blink fast charger proposed by Apex, the company who installed the village’s current chargers, and FLO, a newer company who will be submitting a proposal in the near future.
“We hope to make a decision in June with possible installation by fall,” said Proemm.
The new EV charger will be three times faster than the current inoperable fast charger.
“The good news is we’re getting a new, even faster charger to help travelers and locals charge up,” stated Proemm at the time of the grant announcement.
