A wind chill warning is in effect for St. Lawrence County from 7 p.m. today through 4 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Dangerously cold wind chills are expected, with values as low as 30 to 45 below zero possible, the service says.
The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes, NWS says. Avoid outside activities if possible. When outside, make sure to wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.
Temps will begin falling to around 1 by 5 p.m. with winds of 9 to 13 mph, NWS says. Overnight the low will be around -16 with wind chill values near -35.
Saturday will see sunny skies but with brutal cold temps lingering the entire day and night.
Sunday will warm up to near 16 for the weekend high.
