It will be a wet and icy weekend in the North Country, according to the National Weather Service.

Unseasonably warm temperatures will dominate the weather in St. Lawrence County through Saturday before dropping into sub-freezing territory Saturday night with the onset of a winter storm bringing rain and freezing rain.

Flood and winter storm watches have been posted by the National Weather Service for the entire region.

The possibility of one to two inches of rain combined with runoff from snowmelt will enhance the potential for flooding across much of the North Country. The NWS warns of possibly sharp rises on area waterways Saturday night into Sunday

For the remainder of today, there is a 40% chance of rain with highs around 40, and the temperature will remain around there overnight, with a higher probability of rain, but not much precipitation is expected by forecasters.

Saturday it will be gusty and the rain is expected to continue with perhaps as much as an inch falling. Temperatures will rise to near 50 before dropping below freezing Saturday night as the rain becomes freezing rain. As much as two inches of precipitation could fall Saturday night, the NWS says.

Snow, freezing rain, sleet and snow are expected Sunday as highs reach around the freezing mark.

Skies will clear enough to be called “partly cloudy” on Sunday night, with lows in the teens.
