North Country This Week
POTSDAM — Residents in the Unionville water and sewer districts will see their rates increase slightly on Jan. 1.
The town board adopted rate increases for Water District #1 and Sewer District #1 at their meeting Oct. 13. The board passed the increases following two public hearings on the hikes held prior to the meeting.
Residences in Water District #1 will see their rate increase from $60 a year to $75 per year. The increase will affect about 40 parcels.
The increase for residences in Sewer District #1 will be $15 per quarter, from $45 per quarter to $60. The annual rate for sewer service in the district will be $240 a year. About 39 parcels in that district will see the increase in their bills from Jan. 1 on.
The two districts sit adjacent to the Route 56 water and sewer districts which the town approved earlier this year. That district, which the town has defined along the Route 56 corridor north of the village, was set up with the idea of attracting commercial and industrial development there in the future.
The town is currently finalizing the engineering phase of that project, and will be seeking permits over the next few months for construction of the infrastructure for those districts. A contract for construction is expected to be awarded sometime after the first of the year and construction is expected to begin in Spring 2022.
