Water leak found, crews searching for more as boil water advisory continues in Star Lake; burn ban imposed

STAR LAKE – The Town of Fine has reinforced its water emergency to include a ban on open burning.

The town’s supervisor said they are still looking for leaks that would account for the drop in water pressure in Star Lake that prompted the original order.

Town Clerk Hope Dolan said that they had found one leak and were narrowing down their search in another section of pipe where they believed they would find a second leak.

The drop in water pressure prompted Town of Fine Supervisor Mark Hall to declare a state of emergency and to issue a “boil-water” advisory on Monday.

Tuesday afternoon Hall amended the emergency notice to include a ban “on any open burning such as campfires” so as to preclude any emergency need for water to fight a fire.

“We are troubleshooting the distribution system and searching for leaks,” Hall’s notice said. Please let us know if you notice any suspicious water on he ground or possible sinkholes that have recently appeared,” Hall told town residents.

“We will lift the water restrictions as soon as it is safe to do so,” Hall said.
