Village police, county sheriff deputies investigate two racist messages left in Canton

CANTON -- Village police and county sheriff deputies are investigating racist chalk messages left on sidewalks in two places in Canton.

On Wednesday morning, one was found on Court Street near Main Street and another near Judson Street at the St. Lawrence County DSS Building, according to a statement from Mayor Mike Dalton.

“This is incredibly disturbing and has no place in the Village of Canton or anywhere else for that matter. It is unacceptable and we will not tolerate this or any other display of racism in our community. We are working to find those responsible,” Dalton said.

Anyone with information on either of the messages is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 315-279-2222 or Canton Village police at 315-386-4561.
