MASSENA -- The Village of Massena did “really, really well” in an audit of its books, the auditor told the village board at their Tuesday, Feb. 18 meeting.
Carl Seyfarth of Seyfarth and Seyfarth CPAs presented the results of the annual audit and said Village Treasurer Kevin Felt did “one of the best jobs I’ve ever seen somebody do” in keeping financial records.
He said the audit shows massive outstanding liabilities, around negative $48 million, but that’s due to post-employment health insurance benefits.
"There’s nothing you can do about those big liabilities except through your contract negotiations,” he told the board.
