POTSDAM -- Peak Moment TV on Dec. 13 and 14 will feature a program on a Washington state bike repair enterprise that is part business and part educational non-profit, at 7 p.m. on Clarkson University’s WCKN, cable channel 30.

Sponsored by Potsdam And Canton Transition or PACT, program host Janaia Donaldson talks with Chauncey and Dash Tudhope-Locklear, who have turned the standard business model upside down: it’s not about bigger and more expensive gear, and making more money; they want bikes to be affordable and accessible to everybody. Many of the bikes they sell are used.

Their mission is “Positive Social Change through Bicycles.” They offer a weekly free bike clinic at their shop, where people can borrow the tools and learn how to maintain their bikes, or build one from parts. And they run a bike class in the local elementary school for kids.

They’ve set a goal of having half of Port Townsend using alternative transportation by 2050 (bus, carshare, bicycle, walking).

The Peak Moment programs air every week at 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday on WCKN. Peak Moment explores positive responses to energy decline and climate change through local community action. Locally, the programs are underwritten by The Center for Excellence in Communication at Clarkson University and the Seymour Family of Potsdam.

The show list for this month includes Dec. 20 & 21: Coping with the Decline; and Dec. 27 & 28: YES! Ready for Anything.

Other upcoming topics include local food production, renewable energy, transportation alternatives, sustainable building, preparedness and psychological, business, and governmental responses. All the programs are available on the Web at www.wordpress.peakmoment.tv/conversations/ in video and audio formats.
