CANTON – The town board has authorized Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley to sign a Memorandum of Understanding agreement with the Canton Fire Department to finish paying off the cost of an engine truck.
The town agrees to cover the remaining $46,000 owed on the fire department’s Engine Number 7.
At the town board meeting Wednesday, June 12, Ashley said the town had verbally committed several years ago to cover the cost of the truck. The memorandum signed at the meeting Wednesday puts that agreement in writing.
Under the terms, the town will pay $6,000 every year up to 2026 and then pay $4,000 in 2027.
The remaining balance can be paid off at any time during the term at the town’s discretion, Ashley said.
