The National Weather Service is warning of the possibility of strong thunderstorms today that will add to the high water levels along the Raquette River.
Brookfield Renewable Power yesterday announced it was releasing upstream water through its dams to lower the water levels under the threat of losing control of the flow of the river.
The NWS had posted warnings for Potsdam, Colton, South Colton, Hannawa Falls, Hewittville, Norwood, Norfolk And Massena about high water levels that could rise further today.
Some houses are surrounded by water in the region, and small islands in the river have been inundated.
