PYRITES -- Three cats died in a house fire Tuesday on Church Hill Street, according to Pyrites Fire Chief Tom Schwahn.
The blaze was reported by a neighbor around 3:47 p.m. after the person reportedly saw smoke coming from a nearby home.
Once on scene, firefighters were able to get the fire under control fairly quickly, Schwahn said.
He said firefighters faced many obstacles in the home, such as bags of clothes all over.
The house was condemned Wednesday, partially due to the fire, he said.
No one was home at the time of the fire and three cats died as a result of the blaze.
Schwahn said there were no injuries reported.
The fire is believed to have started in the basement and spread throughout the two-story home.
The cause of the blaze was not yet known.
Firefighters from Canton, Hermon and Russell, along with Canton EMS and members of the SLC sheriff's department were also on scene, Schwahn said.
The chief thanked them for their service and was happy there were no injuries to firefighters who responded to the scene.
