CANTON -- Canton Church and Community Program is seeking help from the community after thieves stole clothing and toys from the Giving Tree holiday program.

“Anyone who would like to help us help our children can bring a new pair of children’s pajamas to the Church and Community Thrift Shop at 7 Main Street, Canton,” said Fran Bailey, Giving Tree Director. “It’s depressing that anyone could steal from children who have so little, and it’s up to us to fill the gap.”

The Giving Tree program provides children’s gifts for local families in need during the holiday season.

The theft has been reported to the Canton Police Department, and anyone who has information on someone with a large supply of pajamas in assorted sizes or multiple identical Lego sets should notify the Canton Police, the C&CP statement said.

The list of missing items includes Lego sets, assorted other toys, and four boxes of children’s pajamas.

The Canton charitable organization said its Giving Tree program needs help to replace the lost pajamas, so that each child in the program can receive a new pair of PJs, as planned.

“People are so generous in taking our regular tags from the displays in local stores, and we always appreciate that,” Bailey said, “but this year we hope that anyone who is able will make an additional donation to the fund or buy a pair of PJs in addition to their gift of toys or clothing or food.”

A number of children in the program fall into girls and boys sizes from 3T to 14/16 and teen girls and boys in adult sizes small, medium and large.

Those who prefer not to shop can make a cash donation that will allow program volunteers to purchase new pajamas in the appropriate sizes.
