CANTON – SUNY Canton’s Automotive Technology program has received a donation of its first fully electric car, a 2013 Nissan Leaf. This donation was made by Scott Shipley of Northern Lights Energy to help ensure SUNY Canton graduates are equipped with the necessary skills to work on America’s rapidly growing electric car fleet.
At a recent electric car event at the college Professor Brandon Baldwin was giving Mr. Shipley a tour of the auto tech facilities. knew that older EVs are now becoming available. The Nissan Leaf was the first mass market electric car of the modern era so it seemed like a perfect fit for the program,” said Shipley.
As more and more electric cars take to the highways the need for electric car technicians is growing. SUNY Canton is now better prepared to train its graduates for the changing automotive industry.
“The job market is changing fast. We need to give students an opportunity to learn and be prepared for their future employment,” he said.
