GOUVERNEUR -- A 21-year-old GED student has been charged and jailed in connection with a recent threat at Gouverneur Central School.
At 10 a.m. Wednesday, Gouverneur police charged Jorden A. Whitton of 510 Sleepy Hollow Road with a felony count of falsely reporting an incident.
Chief Laurina Greenhill was not availablefor comment. A press release announcing the arrest does not make clear if Whitton is accused of actually making the threat, or what type of incident he is accused of falsely reporting.
Greenhill had previously said that two persons of interest were detained and then released the day the threat was made. The release does not say if Whitton was one of those two people.
The threat at the school occurred on March 1 and led to an evacuation. Students returned to classes the next day.
Whitton was arraigned in Gouverneur Town Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, in lieu of $1,000 bail or $2,000 bond, police said.
