North Country This Week
HANNAWA FALLS — There is still time to sign up for swim lessons at Postwood Park Beach and the Potsdam town recreation program, which runs the park, has several other upcoming activities planned for the summer.
Michelle Garrow, Potsdam recreation director, said parents can sign up by phone by calling the beach at 315-265-3118.
“We will be doing lessons on Monday-Friday from 10-10:30 and 10:30-11,” Garrow said. “These lessons will begin on July 11th and will run through August 5th. We will also be offering some Family Lessons, Parent-Tot lessons and Adult Learn-to-Swim. Lessons are open to children age 4 and up.”
The Potsdam town recreation program will continue an educational partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension again this summer. An extension educator will be at Postwood Park from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Thursdays weekly beginning on July 7 for free presentations.
The Potsdam Public Library will be staging story walks and “pop-up" story times over the summer, Garrow said. Announcements of dates and times will be posted on the library's and Town of Potsdam Recreation-Postwood Park's Facebook pages.
The 37th Robert Plumb Memorial Fireworks will be launched at Postwood at dusk on Saturday, July 2. The park concession stand will be open until the fireworks start. The beach will close at 5 p.m; to allow time for the fireworks to be set up.
Dragon Boat Races are scheduled for July 16. There will be food trucks, a vendor fair, health and wellness activities, and local musical talent. If you are interested in participating as a vendor, food provider or entertainer or have any questions, call 315-353-6783.
Garrow said Narcan training will be provided by St. Lawrence County Addiction Services at the park on July 16 at 11 a.m. This program is free and open to the public. Call 315-265-3118 to sign up.
