New York State Police will conduct an aggressive and highly visible traffic safety enforcement effort in areas near Canadian points of entry Friday, according to Acting Troop “B” Commander Capt. Michael Girard.
Girard said patrols will be blanketing the area highways and secondary roads “with an emphasis on the infractions that result in the greatest contribution to serious and sometimes fatal collisions, with particular attention to impaired driving, aggressive driving, inattentive driving, and improper seat belt use.”
Troopers will also be alert for motorists violating the New York’s “Move Over Law,” designed to protect emergency personnel.
The effort will be mirrored on the other side of the border by the Sûreté du Québec in their patrol area, where officers will be concentrating on Highway 15 and Highway 401.
Girard said that with the increased travel anticipated this holiday weekend, the main priority of the Safety Without Borders campaign is to ensure that people traveling will be as safe as possible.
Girard also says there will be additional inspections of commercial vehicles and buses to ensure compliance to standards.
The effort will also encompass western New York along the border with Ontario.
