State Police, emergency services respond to dozens of calls/accidents during storm

Road conditions continued to deteriorate through the evening of Dec. 23, with blizzard-like conditions making many roads impassable.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff implemented a travel advisory, which was then changed to a total travel ban. The ban is in effect until Dec. 24 at 12 p.m.

Travel should only occur if employer required or for an emergency.

Officials say they will continue to access conditions and determine if the ban will be extended or lifted. Conditions remain poor and visibility is limited.

The National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow warning, in effect until 7 p.m. on Dec. 25. Snow accumulations of 4-14 inches of snow and winds up to 45 mph are to be expected.

State Police reported over a dozen incidents of accidents and disabled vehices throughout the day.

State Police responded to a reported one-vehicle accident in Colton around 1:43 p.m., when conditions began to decline at a rapid rate. One vehicle was involved and no injuries were reported.

State Police also responded to a disabled vehicle incident in Colton at 1:56 p.m.

Other incidents include:

* One-vehicle accident in Hammond, no injuries

* One-vehicle accident in Brasher, no injuries

* Two, one-vehicle accidents in Norfolk, no injuries

* One-vehicle accident in Stockholm, no injuries

* Two, one-vehicle accidents in Massena, one injury

* One-vehicle accident in Louisville

* Disabled vehicle in Hopkinton

* Disabled vehicles in Massena

* One-vehicle accident in Norfolk

* One-vehicle accident in Hopkinton

* Disabled vehicles in Hopkinton

Massena Police also reported the department's phone lines were down around 4 p.m. on Dec. 23.

Those with an emergency should dial 911 and dispatch will inform Massena PD.
